so i have a 78 as most of you know. and i got a set of 77 corolla buckets in it. i got a 12" memphis sub from trade on craigslist, he said it sounds really tight and clean. i tested it out hooked to my house receiver, just on the radio portion (pulled it from the closet for the test) and it sounds really clean all the way to near full volume. receiver puts out about 75w per channel. its rated at about 300-400 he said. ill double check. but my amp ill use is an early 90s alpine thats rated about 160 bridged (2 channel). so it should be perfect for the tiny cab i have. then i can use my in deck high pass crossover to cut the lows from my door speakers. i may even use another amp i have to power those. for now i want to get this sub figured out. i think ill have to cut out the hump behind my seat and flat wall that small area to fit it. maybe scoot the seat forward a few clicks. so, for inspiration, lets see some pics of simple systems. amp(s) will be under the seat(s). and i plan to install some speakers into the b pillars. well, maybe. i am going to fill them with foam though. and try to insulate my cab a little better. then ill have to start chasing rattles and buzzes. lol. heres a picture of it. i havent popped it out of the box to identify it. unless someone can from its face.
be careful when hooking it up to the home system, 75 watts on a home receiver is not the same as 75 in a car audio application..i'd even bet if you maxed out your receiver it would blow your 400 watt rated sub mine is coming along, i plan on contributing some pics in a couple weeks when i'm on spring break, i'll have time to install it, just running one 10" Kicker CVT, changed my mind on running two
yeah. but for a minute to test for buzzes i wasnt worried about the ohms difference. the high volume bursts were like a twist of the knob and back sorta thing. anyways, any photos are more than welcome. i dont need ones of console builds or bed boxes. just small behind the seat boxes. might give me some sort of ideas i hadnt thought of.
The sub looks like a Memphis audio M-class, which are 200 rms/400 peak (I believe). here's patriotpop's setup... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2540335/2
lol. thats exactly what it is. i checked inside. im excited that its pretty shallow, ill have an easier time fitting it in the cab.
15-MS104: 200w rms, 400w peak, 5" depth, 50oz magnet, single coil, they say its a 10", they recommend a .5-.8cu/ft box for a sealed. thats great. this box is too big then i think. looks like the perfect sub for me. i might not even have to flat wall the cab. probably though.
yeah. nice simple set up. the cab wall of these trucks is retarded though. like...suuuuper retarded. it has big wide ribs that poke into the cab interior. cant see it adding strength, just taking up space. and i have my sticker wall between the seats. so ill have to figure something out.
thats exactly what i'm doing, i wanna make it real clean though because i have buckets and you can't hide everything behind the bench seat
not a fan of the interior, but he has the same sub as me, and his box looks similar in size...its funny too, i originally smoothed out my tailgate the same way, just a 1/8" piece of metal to cover the gap, my tailgate is bulletproof!! LOL
and i wont flat wall the whole cab. those stickers are priceless to me. its half the character of the truck. that would be like telling shonuff to take the stickers off his rigs. or telling burnz to stop polishing turds.
i just rough measured. if i scoot the seat forward one click i could fit it there with the 2 bumps removed. i have plenty of width and height to use. hmm...should be interesting. lol.
i thought about having it tuck into the seat actually. to save a little depth of the box. and maybe use fiberglass for the back panel to fit the ribs. finding the airspace wouldnt be too bad really.
Nope, go the other way. Look under the dash, there is more room under there than you think. Move some stuff around and you will have plenty room for your sub and amp. I tore out the heater core, because it didn't work anyways, and I found out I can fit a 12 where the heater core was.
hahaha. nahh. i think if i have the nose poke into the seat back i can make it happen. ill just trim out the fabric a bit. it wouldnt look that good if i flipped the seat forward but who cares what thaaat looks like?? and tomorrow ill post a picture of the back wall of these era trucks. youll see why i cant use the back wall as part of my box. atleast not without a little notch. but ill do some test fitting.
heres my 2 cents... make a down firing box thats integrated to your under construction center console. hide the air space of the box in the center console, fit the speaker in between the seats. then put 6x9's behind the seats. in my truck i could just barely fit a 12 in between the seats with my stock console in place, if i were to remove it i would have more then enuff room for the speaker plus the box mounting surface (another 1-2in). or make a glass enclosure with the speaker in between the seats and the box extending behind the seats to either side.
well my console goes all the way to the back wall. like i cut it so it could fit that weird angle of the wall. goofy ass engineering into that wall, i swear. lol. i thought about facing it down, and under the console. im not sure the space is there with my buckets. ill test fit that tomorrow too though. i will have the amp under a seat either way, and fill the b pillars either way. thing with putting it in the console though, is i would have to totally seal it and calculate the volume of the inside of the console, or whatever section i have holding are. and it would probably rattle the crap out of my drinks. lol. i suppose if i made it mount solid enough to the floor it wouldnt matter.
