Hi I am working on my 92 22re 2wd. This is not one of those "my truck won't start" threads. I am simply trying to see what the color of the + wire is coming off of my starter. It is really hard to see. And I can't get at it very easily. What colour is it? Is there an easier location where I can access it from a higher area?

 

Can't say for certain, but I imagine they would be the same, my 90 is black with white stripe.

 

hmm okay. That's not enough cuz I was thinking it is black with red stripe. Where would be the place to find it in a higher location? I just don't know where the + starter wire runs to. It goes from the starter to where and where?

 

Well thanks. I found it. Well I hope. I am doing a battery relocation and trying to figure this out. I will try that wire. It's gotta be it. Upon further thought it should be the same as your truck. I believe most everything is the same on 89-92 and then a bit of changes on 93 and newer.

 

Ifi still had my service manual i would look. Did u trace it back to the relays/fuses?

 

No. I kinda wish I knew how it works. I'm not a mechanic just kinda a noob. But I followed it from the starter and into a big wire harness. And it appears to head in the direction of the computer in the passenger kick panel inside the firewall. I tore some of the harness apart (it is on my inner fender) and found a thicker black wire with a white stripe. Now if I could see the wire at the starter it would be easy. It looks black down there...

 

Probably best to find a wiring diagram for your model to figure out for sure.
On the older pre electronic stuff the wire would have come from the ignition switch to the starter and activated the starter in the start position of the key.
Beings its EFI and all, it most likely still starts at the ignition switch but probably goes through relays to not only activate the starter but is tied into the computer and sensors to operate things like cold start injector, fuel pump and so on depending on temperature ect.
