Ok guys well I just got the truck back together after bagging it and putting the fuel cell in... Oh and I did search and only came up with one thread and I just wanted to get some better opinions on what you guys think it may be. So i pulled out my driveway after putting it in drive and i made it like 50 feet and it shut off. Started right back up. I drove up a hill then I pulled into a parking lot and it shut off again. So i started it back up and when I put it in drive this time i reved it quick before it kicked in and it didnt stall...So then i drove back to my house and right as I was slowing down and pulling into my driveway it stalled out again...Started it back up and parked it...Now I just was walking by it and I noticed the fuel cell looked edxanded like bubbled cause there seemed to pressure in there or something...So I unscrewed the cap and a bunch of air or fumes and **** released and the fuel cell went back to normal size. Do you think this has something to do with it stalling out? Or is it normal for the fuel cell to build pressure like that and maybe its a vac leak?
Did you just install the fuel cell? maybe the cap on it is bad and its not letting it vent, I've heard of a bad gas cap causing a vehicle to stall.
No...The fuel cell was in it but it had a bad cap so i bought a different kind...There appears to be no place on this cell for a vent....Ill take pics now and upload them in a few minutes for you
usually the vent is in the cap, but it doesn't look like thats the case here. I don't really know what else it could be.
If the fuel level is down enough that it won't slosh all over, take the cap off and take it for a spin and see what it does.
I just got the truck like a month and a half ago...I never drove it other than my driveway. I redid all the suspension and frame first before I took it out because it wasnt good. But the guy used to drive it but it had a cap on the back of the truck because the fuel cell cap was shot and didnt seal...So im figuring this is how he drove it around cause it didnt build up pressure cause the cap was so loose...Anyway enough rambling...Ill take the truck out tomarrow when I get home from work without the cap on to see if that solves the problem. And if so then ill buy a vent and drill a hole in the cap and vent it. But then that brings another problem.....wont water get in through the filter vent when it rains and let water in the tank? I can also see why there is not a spot on the tank for a vent...The spot is being used as a return line.
Driving it with the cap off, the same thing as yesterday happened... Also my driveway is on a hill and today backing up the driveway it had like no power and was sputtering trying to make it up the hill...But it seemed ok on flat ground kinda. Since there was allot of dirt and **** in the cell when I got the truck I cleaned it out, But I was thinking....Do you think this all could be caused by a bad fuel filter?
I am experiencing the same problem. I had dirt in my fuel tank. I changed the filter it's not hard. It is on the passenger side. You must take off the passenger front tire and go in from there. You should be able to take part of the fender off too. 1)remove forward fitting 2)unbolt 2 bolts holding it in (socket wrench with extension) 3)remove rear fitting Use a backing wrench on the main body of it to make sure the fitting comes off easy and doesn't damage anything. There are 2 little brass gaskets for each side of each fitting. I bought a filter for about $25. I think it could be the injectors clogged up on me because I still have the problem of it sputtering. If I stomp on the gas really hard nothing happens. But if I rev it slowly it revs up nice.
Thanks for the detail bro but it doesnt have the stock filter.. It has a canister style kind like 6 inches after the line comes out of the fuel cell...Tomarrow after work Ill drain the gas and take off the filter. Ill try to find one locally and ill prob pick up fuel injector cleaner just because........You said you are experiencing the same problem...Do you mean the stalling when you come to an almost stop? And if so...Changing the filter fixed that problem?
I haven't got the chance to drive it around a lot. Just in my yard. But changing the filter made it better. I still think I need to free up the injectors. Let me know how the injector cleaner works. And good luck with the filter search. My other 22RE truck used to stall on me when it came to a stop and idled for a few seconds. I think it was the timing. You might want to make sure the cab is sealed because my fuse box was getting wet and that could have been it.
Ok thanks man. My cab is sealed good. No water or dampness inside. Its gna be a few days before I will get to get that filter off cause its suppose to rain the next couple days and I dont got a garage. Thanks again
