I just swapped out my original cluster for a SR5 one from a 1984 22R 4WD pickup. When I am idling I am at 800 RPMs, same as my aftermarket tach read, but when I am hitting 55 I am around 1750 with the SR5 and was at 2000 with the A/M tach. I GPSed my speed and the speedometer is only a couple off. I have a 5 speed G57 Trans on a 1988 Deluxe 2WD. Any one know what I should be taching ? How can I be good at idle but off at higher range. Also, does anyone know for certain that if you hook up the cluster and start the truck with the stock oil pressure switch attached that the gauge is shot ??. I knew better but forgot !!!!! I have another parts cluster I may remove the oil pressure gauge from but I am hoping that maybe the other survived ??? Thanks, 22R88
Update !! When I turned everything on the Oil Pressure rose slowly then after about a minute it fell off with the key on, I then realized that I had forgot to remove the wire. I unhooked it and finished installing the cluster. Everything else works, so today at work I go out side and just for the hell of it I hook the wire back up and turn on the key and the needle begins to rise. Maybe I didn't leave the juice to it too long to fry it ??? I guess I will get a oil press sender and try it before I swap out the oil Press gauge from another cluster ?? 22R88
better safe than sorry get the oil pressure sender i got it and works fine and i am @ 900 idle rpm when the engine is up and warm
Off topic question, but on the 84 to 88 pickups are the speedometer done with a cable or electronically?
