i have 2 6x9 infinity reference speakers behind my bench seat in my std. cab 93. ive been trying to find boxes that i can put the speakers in that will fit behind the seat but not lose any room to adjust the seat. is there anything out there or will i have to make one myself?

    thanks

    My searches have revealed nothing.

You have two options, neither of which is easy.

You can fab an enclosure from 12" MDF. Just two simple flat sided boxes. For those series 6x9's (Which I love by the way.), you will need just under 1/2 an cubic foot of box volume each for good low end volume.

    OR

You could go custom and create a fiberglass enclosure using MDF and fleece covered in resin. The fleece allows you to form it to a desired shape and set it with the resin.

Do you have any woodworking experience?
Do you just want a simple plain box?
I can probably give you some pointers, but I need to know what kind of tools you have or have access to.

Usually you would start by making a cardboard template of the side of the box or boxes. I know that you have limited space behind the seat, so you need to take the time to measure your height, and depth (top and bottom). Then cut those measurements out of a piece of cardboard.
Then take the template and place it where you need it to fit in the truck, put the seat back and check for clearance. If you need to trim it anywhere, do so. Once you have your final fit (taking into consideration that the speaker will probably stick out a bit), you know your side dimensions. Figure out how long then to make the front, back, top, and bottom, and go to town.;)

Hope that gets you started, let me know....

Question is, is there 7" of depth behind the seat? I had thought about these, but wasn't sure.

its easy enough to figure out to see if you do. just take some cardboard and tape and make to the dimensions of that box. put them back there and adjust your seat. as for me i wont have to worry about any of that, i'm not putting a system in mine. just a set of mid-ranges is about all. and maybe a 10" in a center console. no need for anything much more than that since its gonna spend about 85% of its life in the garage.

sorry for taking so long. i was out of town mountain biking. ive done a few wood working projects here and there and my dad is does furniture repair so he can help me out. i like the idea of the carbourd. that may make this project a little bit easier. one problem i have that makes this project a royal pain in the a$$ is when my dad had the truck ( idk if any of yours have the same thing in there) he had a tool organizer so there is this peice of metal that sticks out about an inch or so and goes along the whiole back of the wall behind the seat. im trying to figure out a way to take it off to give me more room to work with. anybody know what im talking about?

This is in the middle where there is a peice of paper or something in the groove in the middle of the peice. this is what makes me think i can take the panel off.

yeh but heres where it gets complicated.. either im not looking hard enough or there arent any bolt/screws that i can see.. the only bolt there is is the one that held the jack and tool bag. other that that. nothing:confused:

started on the boxes today. almost have the first box done and i think it looks "good" for the first time doing this kind of project. i just have to put the side on and cut the hole for the speaker. then build the other box. ill post pics up wen im done.

yeh i figured that out... sux... i went in with a crow bar and hammer to see if it was just clipped on and found out when i saw the ground threw this pencil sized hole... what is a good filler that can also fill some of the holes where the rust has eaten through in the cab?

Well, you can use fiberglass bondo, but the best thing to do is to weld in a piece of sheetmetal, and treat it with osfo before painting.
