i've been told "peel & seal" from lowes is just as good, if not better and it's a couple dollars cheaper...at least in my area Shop Peel & Seal 6" X 25' Aluminum Roof Repair at Lowes.com[com.lowes.commerce.storelocator.beans.LocatorStoreBean%402de4abcc%2C+com.lowes.commerce.storelocator.beans.LocatorStoreBean%402dc5abcc%2C+com.lowes.commerce.storelocator.beans.LocatorStoreBean%402c94ebcc%2C+com.lowes.commerce.storelocator.beans.LocatorStoreBean%402cf56bcc%2C+com.lowes.commerce.storelocator.beans.LocatorStoreBean%402fea6bcc]&Ne=4294937087&Ntt=&N=4294934213+4294963790&identifier=Peel+Seal&URL=TopCategoriesDisplayView&langId=-1&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&storeId=10151&searchQueryType=1
if im not mistaken, it does work for awhile, but is a tar based adhessive and it will dry out and all that over time
Yup same stuff they use in trailer houses its garbage after a few years if your looking for something hit me up I know a few peeps that can get dynamat on the cheap
Check this site out. Its the sound deadener showdown. It goes over many of the popular type of deadeners and the goods and bads of them. As posted before, it is tar based and there are many better options out there. Read through it, its pretty interesting. Mine has been in for 2 years....no change. I refuse to pay more than I did...I would have none before I pay more. 20 years ago, we didn't have anything and it was all good.
Fat mat works very well ( test show better than Dyamat) 6'' X25'= 1,800 sq. in. /$15 Lowes/HomeDepot stuff Fat mat smallest amount 18'' x40'' sheet = 720 sq.in. per sheet x 5 sheets= 3,600 sq.in./$44.95 in little over twice the amount Lager areas of material= less seams I use the 100 ' rolls !! Good product, fast shipping!
Not saying fat mat isn't probably better. I spent $45 total (3 rolls). I am more than satisfied and I actually think the 6" strips made it easier to deal with the curves of the floor. I overlapped an inch on each seam. I seriously doubt I will ever need to replace it. I'm not pushing one product over another....just saying what my experiences were with the product. It makes no difference to me what anyone uses. Plus I have a blow through box. I am sure a lot of sound gets by making the sound deadener somewhat pointless.
I just used one roll of the Quick Roof material from Home Depot $16.00 but i recommend at least two rolls. Now that the back wall has been painted it is time to use the Dynamat Deadening Materilal (Quick Roof from Home Depot $16.85 ) Now to prep the back wall with Keyston Hi Performance spray adhesive for the Charcoal grey carpeting which will also help to keep things neat and add more deadening material. Now to apply the spray adhesive to the backside of carpet: I was careful to mask the top and sides with the blue masking tape to make sure the adhesive didnt get onto the back glass and also have to lay the carpet from the top to bottom.. i used yellow chalk to mark the curves at the ends:
I know this thread is old but I feel it ultimately needs finished off by some user reviews. Not of the different products but if taking the time to do all of that is actually noticeably worth it? Also very clean truck there!
I used Fat Mat, did the whole inside :back wall, floor, fire wall, inside roof area ,doors inside & out. This was done around 8 years ago.Very quite!
It better be with the entire interior done! Ha Knowing that would you think just doing the floor would make a difference?
I've used this stuff on a few of my vehicles. I did the spare tire well and hatch area in my '08 VW R32 to cut down on the exhaust noise from the MagnaFlow system I installed, worked great. Then I had an FR-S for a while and did the whole floor, doors, quarter panels, and trunk with the Peel & Seal, I went from having to talk loud to have a conversation to being able to hear. You also get a nice solid thump when closing doors instead of sounding like you just hit a gong. If you want the best results you need another layer, go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a few rolls of Frost King self adhesive duct insulation. It is a closed cell foam with adhesive on one side and a layer of foil on the other, it will make a bigger difference, The Peel & Seal mostly dampens vibrations, the Frost King CCF blocks the actual sound.
Good to know! I wanted to remove my carpet and give it a deep clean this summer anyway so sounds like I'll be adding some of this!
