This is what i got. A rebuilt motor for $400. Sat up for 2 yrs out side... put it in my truck and got everything going.. there is this ticking, chain sound, from the front. Took valve cover off when i put my new on and what i find is the timing chain guide not installed on the left time. So theres lots of slack in the chain for about 2 minutes after cranking. i was told by 3 mechanics that it wont hurt it, to run a WIX oil filter with anti drain back. Anyways my question is, WILL this hurt it? It rattles for about two minutes until oil pressure builds up. Lmk somethin.

Ive been ripped off 4 bills on a "rebuilt" 350 im my camaro. Started it up and it had a #8 rod knock like a mother......

But as far as yours. 2 min to build oil pressure? Either the pump, sump, or the bottom end is wore out.

The chain guide..If you crank it without a guide on, the chain can slip. These are slammer motors so you run the risk of bending the valves. But most likely the single chain streched and destroyed the guide. And the noise is the chain rubbing the timing cover. Are you getting coolant in the oil?

i take back the oil pressure...put it this way..i can crank the truck, itll rattle, i give it a little bit of gas after two minutes the rattle goes away. and im 100% sure its the timing chain. I can pick the slack up.

no good. take the cover off and replace the whole timing kit. since the guide is not there, it is wearing into the chain tensioner and is is rubber so its going to eat through it. and im pretty sure when it gets to the metal inside, it will grenade your motor

Pull the timing cover, and get a chain set from somewhere.

    (not cloyes! its crap!)

Rock brand is awesome. Thoroughly impressed. Get it from Engnbldr.
You might need a timing cover too. Id bet on it.
