Well I took my passenger dor lock out of my '77 Hilux and took it to a locksmith to get a key made for it. The woman at the locksmith asked if it was out of the Passenger door, and I said yes. She said that Toyota put the key codes on the passenger door locks. I thought it was a pretty nifty piece of information and I though I would pass it on. So if you ever lose your key, take out the passenger door lock and it will save you alot of money.

Aww crap man, I so thought that was what a 3 lb hammer was for :D , LOL, JK ! I guess another great peice of info would be. . . Dont lose your keys with the doors locked, otherwise, WHEW! Great info thanks for the share! I lost my keys on my 84 on time 150 miles from the 2nd set, so I just pulled the slider out and voila, I then hotwired it and drove off, less than 3 minutes, sh*t was to easy, one reason I hate sliders AND locking ignitions !

Another alternative that has kinda spoiled me, On my 75, I built and mounted power windows along with power locks, along with the alarm system, its now just a push of the button and the windows roll up and the doors lock, :D
As long as I don't lose the key fob or the battery goes dead I,m OK, but I still carry an extra key in my wallet just for such occasions.

I dont know for what year but for my 89, when I lock my keys in ( yes more then once lol) I always have a wire coat hanger and it takes 30 seconds. Since our locks go up and down its really easy.

when I was bagging my truck I found a spare key holder way the hell under my truck I think it was on the crossmember that holds the midshaft bearing, if it were still there and i locked my keys in it would be no help. But I've locked the keys in my truck several times and never knew that spare was there:mad:

the key code on the lock thing only goes up to 89 or 91' I believe after that you have to go to toyota with proof of ownership and the vin code.

I paid $10 for mine. I sent a steering column up to the same locksmith once and they charged $25 for that but I guess she only charged me $10 on that one because she just put it in the computer and it cut the key.
