Hello Toyota fans. My name is Chris. I'm from the SoCal area. I picked up my truck a year ago. I've always wanted a Toyota pickup and I found this 1988 4x2 Pick Up 22R 4-speed in a backyard full of boats and trailers. The dude bought her 2nd hand in 1989 in Vegas (some guys have all the luck). He used her as a general maintenance / cable truck in the San Diego area. He bought a brand new Tundra when the engine blew 8 years ago and kept her in the backyard under a tree. The guy ended up moving up to WA near a fisherman's dream community with his wife and I was blessed with this beauty. After topping the fluids and rebuilding the starter she fired up. The jubilation ended when the dip stick had the dreaded "milk-chocolate" consistency. The teardown revealed a crack in the Head and a melted piston. I spent the last semester at the local community college rebuilding the 22R from the bare block. It was a fun learning experience. Next on the list is a freshening of the carb. I really like the Japanese bed with latches and outer rail. I hope to meet new Toyota Mini bros on this board, learn something new, and maybe help others with what I've picked up.
Welcome chris! nice find you got there. what do you have planned for this? keeping her stock or goin slight/full custom? what part of socal you in?
Thanks! As far as plans, this site gives me tons of ideas, like lowering her, some nice dishy wheels and GOD she could use some paint but this economy has my balls right now. Moms ain't working which means I gotta kick it into overdrive. So for now, just rebuild the carb as cheaply as possible and get her tagged. She's a Fed and Canada model which is cool since there really isn't a computer to control things (PURELY MECHANICAL) BUT she's got a power sapping SMOG PUMP. I've been looking into propane conversion. Cleaner emissions, the fuel is DOMESTICALLY produced and the BIG OIL COMPANIES don't a get dime of my hard earned Dollazz. Real Hank Hill style. I run propane and propane accessories!!! I'm by Knott's - North Orange County area of SOCAL where most trucks like mine are being used for what they were originally designed for...WORK. Loaded up with all sorts of shopping carts, lawnmowers, engines and home building stuff. Gotta love this country and all the opportunity. I'll post some more truck porn in a little MAHALO!
Another local. Sweet. Let me know if you need help with anything. I'm right down the street. Actually, I'm like 30 miles away. But, I'll make the drive out to lend you a hand. I wish this stupic rain would go away.
Engine upskirt This is where I've been living for a while Cool Tool Box included in the purchase-GOD BLESS AMERICA check the vintage SD Surfer scene stickers!! Rear latches of the TRUCK DONKAGE - all I need are some vintage Yosemite Sam "BACK OFF" mudflaps
Rain / cold weather keeps me indoors too I can just hear all the haters out there. Yes the weather here spoils us sometimes when we can't go out in play w/ our TOYS!!!
Welcome to Toyotaminis! Let us know whatcha got planned for her and maybe start up a ( Build-Thread ) when you get a chance and show off your talent(s) and feel free to plot yourself on our ( User Map )!
just disconnect that smog pump by removing the belt. bunch of other little smog bypass tricks to help the trucks power output to get you by through the smog by-year are commonly found if you look around
Nice looking truck man, I just joined not to long ago as I picked up my 85 2wd in Huntington Beach last year, she's been in the body shop for the last month and I'm about to pick her up today. I might need some lessons from you on the engine refresh - mine only has 123K one owner miles but Im starting to hear noises, clicking and tapping from the motor. Good luck and glad to see you on here. OJ
