What is a cheap and easy way to get a smoother ride from my 1993 Toyota? It has an OEM setup with KYB Gasadjust shocks at all 4 corners. The rear seems the worst as far as ride goes. Thanks, Stan
I have seen a coil over shock conversions done on pickups before. Ones that have a rear leaf setup like our truck. It deletes the leaf's and adds coil over shocks front and back and a rear four link.
suspension upgrades in general are not cheap or easy. If cost is a big factor and you are really just concerned with ride quality not performance I would suggest sound dampening your floor and doors. you can buy a bulk pack of dynamat extreme or similar, a wooden dynamat roller tool , a razor knife, a bottle of simple green and a set of interior tools off amazon for less then $200.. Amazon.com: Dynamat 10455 Xtreme Bulk Pack 9 Sheets: Automotive just read peoples reviews on it... it does not have to be dynamat brand , but I do suggest you stick with something meant for automotive use. I personally use stinger roadkill at my shop because I think the black finish looks better then silver.
Thanks,..I have already done the sound dampening to the doors, floor board and rear of cab. This quieted things down as far as road noise goes, but of course had no effect on my somewhat harsh rear suspension ride. I realize that suspension upgrades are expensive... I have other toys with them. However, I am not going to put a set of KWs or Koni coilovers on the old truck. I thought that maybe someone out there would have a softer rear leaf spring setup. The times that I have hauled a load in the truck it sure had a better ride. Tires are crappy Kuhmos with 14" wheels..Will upgrade to 16" wheels and better tires soon. Thanks for the replies, Stan
I've noticed the same thing about my truck. I think it's because you've paired together a super light rear end with a shock with a really stiff dampening characteristic. So the ass end just bounces over everything. I've been considering some cheepo $19 Monroe's for the back of my truck to see how it works out. I've also considered running some sandbags in the bed of the truck. It made a noticeable difference when I put a Spare under the truck, figure run with the weight idea (it's cheap )
I don't see how sound deadening is going to do anything for his ride quality... There are cheaper things than Dynamat that work as good if not better. The stuff I got for a huge roll for $96 on Ebay, 2X75ft. However, adding 20lbs. of sound deadening is not going to give you a smoother ride.
