Just as title states. I have a new head gasket, spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, new vacuum lines. no oil in coolant no coolant in oil.

I did a valve adjustment after it has smoked, after warm up and that made no difference.

I am in the middle of the build and cant run the truck under stress. The truck has sat for more than 2 years prior to all the above.

Does any one know why? Also i was thinking once i get done with the suspension work i have left if the smoking may clear up after a long drive since it hasn't gone on one for more than 2 years.

The smoke is whitish and smells gassy. Oh yea i have the timing at manufacture recommendation.

    anyone?

where is the smoke? I recently took my exhaust manifold apart and it started smoking after I put it back together. It stopped though.

Start with a compression test. Dry, then wet.

OK, Looks like i may have it figured out. I think i may be leaking coolant into a cylinder. i also noticed that my cooling system gets very pressurized during operation. so my bet is its leaking in and gasses pressurizing my system. Another new head gasket round 2.

I wonder if i re check the tourqe on my head bolts if this would cure it?

Worst case is a cracked head... but it could be magnafluxed correct? that is if i took it in for a rebuild.

Humm now in confused. maybe im just being paranoid.

I rechecked my head bolts @58lbs. and had 2 that were a little under. so fixed that. i also checked my spark plugs and did a visual inside my cylinders and saw no antifreeze. put it back together and ran it w/o the radiator cap and saw no bubbles. I read some where that this could be a way to tell if the head gasket had a issue. but nothing, the coolant level would drop when i reved it just as i have seen in many of my vehicles. then after it warmed up completely and opened the thermostat it would raise some and over flow a little.

I do notice that my coolant is a little mercy i switched over to the GREEN type after my overhaul on the engine. It was the RED toyota style originally so i am just thinking there may be some left in the system that has mixed with it.....

i think i may be crazy:looney: after it warmed up i notice very little whiteish smoke less than before.

I should just finish up and drive the dam thing already. And then see what happens.

Smoke comes out of tail pipe. so does moisture.

Stock exaust thus far i think it may be the original. and i have a hair over 200,000 on the truck. but being 3rd owner i know the guy before the guy i bought it from was pretty anal about it so every thing is in very decent working order.

if I read this right you did your valve adjustment when your motor was COLD? its supposed to be done at normal operating temp

What type of head gasket did you install? EFI or carb?

just to make sure but you do mean smoke and not condensative smoke right? if you are running a stock exhaust sytem with cat working and all, some smoke will come through the tail pipe along with some moisture depending on the trucks operating condition. is it smoke that quickly evaporates or is it heavy? and what are the weather conditions like where you are at? cold? heavy moisture in the air etc?

if you had a coolant leaking into your cylinders you would notice a faint to fair miss... maybe take video of it and post?

its not heavy. i want to replace the entire exaust system. i dont know if it is fully operational and my muffler has a hole in the bottom of it.

im in colorado so its generaly pretty dry. we have had hard rain for a couple of weeks so i would put humidity around 30%.

I think it was a rock head gasket. I had my wife give me a second opinion on the "smoke". it is not heavey and may actually have a blue hue to it.

    still confused.

    Oh yea and its EFI

blue means burning oil....how long have you been running it after doing the head gasget? When I do them I know it smokes a little while it burns all the crap outta the motor... I will drive it hard for a couple miles and see if it clears up.

If it's gassy smelling, i'm betting somewhere along your injectors or cold start injector is leaking/clogged... Sitting for 2 years is a long time...

    1. 115
    2. 104
    3. 120
    4. 120

more reading may point me to valve seals.

i bought a seal conditioner to put in my oil. we will see what happens in a few.

I am still in the middle of the build hopefully i will have it on the road in 2 weeks.:runaway:
