I was thinking of buying my friends 40mm side draft mikuni carb kit for $500.Wanted to know if it was a good price and if those carbs are any good.

I gots no truck, for now
I personally don't like mikunis. But a lot of people do use em. If that kit comes complete with carbs manifold and linkages (sp?) Its just an OK deal. If its a good friend he should do better

If the carbs are in good shape and include manifold and linkage, that's actually not too bad for a Kauai price. I paid more than that for mine. I got two trucks: one with Mikunis and one with Webers; I like the one with Mikunis better.

The last time I was at mikuni usa in northridge they said they were no longer producing carbs for cars anymore, only in europe. They said usa is only a small engine carb company. That was like 4 years ago.

That is correct. Mikuni phh carburetors were discontinued in 1995. Hold onto your spares cause the prices have since doubled, sometimes tripled in the case of the elusive 50mm phh that were an option for the datsun 1200...

There are other options like webers or OER (hybrid mikuni and weber) thats readily available. It's really a matter of preference for the tuner... If I can sell my collection for what it's worth I would invest in the OER's! I just have to much to turn away from and start all over, plus I can jet a mean mikuni with my eyes closed...

The days of EFI are here so unless your restricted to a carb or restoring for OEM specs I'd say spend your hard earned money on EFI... Just saying... :waytogo:
