Is it worth the power increase if I remove my Power Steering and A/C. Or should I keep in in my truck?. What you all think what would you do?
1-2 horses on the PS. AC is similar. You have listed your truck for street and -strip- therefore I say remove both and get rid of the weight too. 25-50 lbs total.
removing the p/s will require a manuel box, and removing the a/c meens a misarable summer heat, I'd keep them both.
But, is it really worth that 3-4 hp and reduced weight. Imagine sitting in traffic sweating your ass off all summer and having to fight your car to fit into a tight parking spot.
My BMW does not have any of the powersteering components left other than the rack. What you can do is loop the lines (or get fancy and create a block) and then you are not fighting the pump. maybe 15% worse unless you are sitting at a dead stop. Seriously not looking back. oh and the truck has more turns lock to lock so it will be easier. As for AC the 40 lbs + horsepower from my integra made for about .5 second faster quarter mile times. 16.5 down to 16.0 and the 3-4 horses is for a stock engine... If you've got better engine it could free up more.
welcome to my world... but i dnt mind heat... but the tight spots are always fun lol, id leave the P/S but take out the a/c if u can stand heat like i can
a/c is a necessity where i'm from with 115-120 degree summers you HAVE to have it...I dont have p/s on my truck..and i like it like that one less thing to fail and leak...ditch the p/s imo!!
as long as ur not a complete stop not having p/s isnt bad, my wheels turn pretty good w/o it... but im used to CALI weather haha
Scrap 'em both! I have neither, and I don't mind. I had a VW Scirocco that was black with black leather interior when I lived in Macon, GA that had neither and was my DD. Then again, my truck is not my DD. My current DD has A/C and P/S. I never really liked power steering much, myself.
I would leave the PS and AC alone... You think you dont want it now, but then after you get rid of it and drive through the heat for a good couple of years you will wish you had it... BTW, the ladies dont like a ride with no A/C. My wife would not ride in my truk until I fixed the A/C.. And on another note, unless all your going to do is race the truck, then whats the point of sacraficing your comfort for .5 of a second?
if you do remove it, let me know. i'd like it for my truck. as for difficulty, ive never noticed it being that hard. but if yer going for performance to the max then i say remove it all.
id ditch the p/s but keep it in storage but keep the a/c better that way....no power steering better handling if you decide to kick it out some on those rainy wet nights while baking in a/c cheeee heee
my 86 didn't have either. I noticed only one flaw, the rag joint in the steering shaft ripped more times than I care to think about(lots of slo mo driving, off road). So, I used a piece of metal *similar* to a street sign, and a new rag joint. I traced the new joint onto the metal, cut it out, and installed BOTH in the shaft. This was one of the best redneck mods I ever did to that truck. At low speed, I could turn it lock to lock with out much muscle, and at speed the steering felt WAY more responsive. The 87 I just got actually has PS....I'm unsure how I feel about it yet.... I'd say get rid of it all. Here's a good formula I found. 1) Calculate vehicle's current weight(x). 2) Subtract the amount of weight you’re removing. 3) Take this new number(a) and divide it by the horse power of the vehicle (y). The number you come up with (z) will be the amount of lbs. per horse power after the reduction. (Step 1) 4) Then divide 1 by the number of pounds (z) and multiply it by the weight before the reduction(x). This new number (b) will be the new simulated horsepower of the vehicle. (Step 2) 5) Take this number (b) and subtract the horsepower before weight reduction(y) from it. This will be the simulated gain(s/hp (g)). (Step 3) Step 1: a/y=z Step 2: (1/z)*x=b Step 3: b-y=g
