i took my truck to a shop this morning to get a glasspack welded in between the cat and N1 muffler. i just wanna tone it down a bit. two hours later, the shop calls and says it wont fit and that installing the glasspack wont make a difference in the sound with the cat on it. my question is this, how will it not change the tone, even a lil? my biggest issue with the shop is i measured and made sure the glasspack would fit without the muffler going past the axle. i would have had 4in between end of muffler and axle. the glasspack the shop was putting on was actually shorter than what i measured for and they said muffler was past axle by 8in. so i am heading to friends house in morning to weld everything up myself. but was shop right in saying it wont make a difference in sound?
it'll change it a little but you probably won't notice between the cat and the n1. As far as the spacing, ask them to show you why they think it won't fit. they may leave more space on either end of everything than you did or something.
muffler shop Regardless of if it will change the sound or not, you're a customer and if they want your money they should do whatever it is that you want. Adding or taking any thing off your exhaust always changes the sound. somebody who does not drive your truck on a regular basis might not notice but you sure will. And you might not hear a difference at idle but once you hit the road you're gonna hear the difference. I just re-did my exhaust from a long stack hooker to a short stack headman. The shop would have charged me a lot. I learned that if you need reducers or adapters take the two pipes you need to join to the muffler shop and they have the machine to flare and bend those pipes up real quick. and it doesn't cost much. I did pretty much the same setup. Did it all myself and it's all before the axle. I don't think it made it quieter (maybe the shop thought you wanted it quieter). But at idle it is a little bit quieter. And ya tucked all my exhaust above the framerails and it goes cat-cherry bomb-round muffler-side exit
