I've been noticing that lately if Im drivin my truck for a long period of time that it's hard to put in gear. This is kinda vague but idk how else to describe it.

Whens the last time you changed the gear oil in it? does it leak? caked with gunk? how many miles? has it been rebuilt? what gears does this happen?

Start with answering these questions so we can further figure out what the issue could be.

Sometimes it's as simple as replacing the shifter bushing. It's all accessible from inside the cab.

I haven't replaced the gear oil. But now I'm thinking I should. It has about 184000 an it's through every gear. I don't think it leaks but ill check tomoro

if its all gears and especially when it warms up im thinking something other than the tranny.... possibly clutch component related..... when was the last time the fluid in it was changed? check and see if there is any binding in the slave cylinder when it is pushed in. check for any leaks at the slave and at the master....... when it does it again.... have someone push down on it and hold it. take a look inside the resivoir and see if any bubbles come out after a few seconds..... if it does, either one or the other is passing fluid and not letting the clutch disengage fully.....

always rule out the cheaper things first. :waytogo:

Ya I was thinking it was my clutch master cylinder or something like that. Might just have to get a new one an see if that helps. I just hope it's not the tranny.

just take out the drain plug on the bottom, then fill it back up on the side, a siphon pump makes it so much easier, you wanna fill it up until you can feel the oil when you put your finger inside the fill hole

and also check your shifter bushing, its a cheap replacement..I almost bought a new tranny because mine was doing the same thing yours did, i took it out of the truck and everything, thank god i didn't buy it. the new bushing made it feel like new again. Here is some links for it

Bernie thats an older model right? Mine was easy to put in the new bushing has slots cut into it to make it easier, but once you get the shifter out of the tranny you have to push down and twist to get to the bushing, was yours the same way?

Ok so it seems pretty simple an shouldn't take long. From one of the links you basically just push down with a cloth an turn counter clockwise. Pull the old one out with your finger get pliers pull off the shifter one. Push the new one down into the tranny an push the other onto the end of the shifter. Tht sound about right?
