looking to switch mine up... show what ya run... or show ideas of cool or different shifter knobs. im looking to do a low profile one that runs the knob deep into the threads (kinda like a shortened shifter feel) this is what i was thinking on using.. kinda.... i dont know yet... something simple, easy to make.. im also thinking that out of steel to have the weighted feel on the shifter...
I bought a powered by max shift knob. Love it. Used it on two other vehicles. Waiting to finally finish my 5 speed swap this weekend.
i found a way around that heat retention.... i carried my trd cap with me in my 86 and i had a s.s. shifter knob... id get out if it was warm and toss the cap over it... not much heat retained at all.
Snapon screwdriver handle. Hard red plastic with black soft rubber grip. Decently heavy and gives me the trucker feel because its quite long with stock shifter length. Cut down itd make a comfy short shifter. Fits my style anyway.
haha, that trucker style is sweet but i dont think i could live with the row boat paddle kinda throw to try and shift... lol
It's like ultimate frisbee every time you hunt for a gear!! I have rocked lots of different ones and my favorite always seems to be a round top or ball shaped. Going to make a glass one soon. Have had metal, leather and plastic. I like to run a old car shifter stick, shorter than the trucks and are chrome. Can be cut down further. Right now I have a 70 Sr5 truck knob. Has a glitter green pattern disc. Somebody lathed it down to remove the fake stitching look. I have one of those too lol. Ill dig up a photo later. In my old 92 I had probably the coolest shifter arm I've had so far. Heat the rubber in the 2 piece joint. Pull off the top and scrap it. Clean the base bar of excess rubber. It's 12mm diameter at the top. Get a 12x1.25 die and thread it as far as possible. Then I took a section of 1" diameter solid aluminum stock about 12" long and had a buddy lathe it down. Had it taper 2" from the base up 5". That closely mimics stock shape. The last inch was 12mm to be threaded. He drilled a hole in the base for 12mm threads. I died the top threads. It was 8" tall overall. I also cut down the base closer to the bend so it would be shorter. It was really slick. Want to make the same thing again for my truck. Hope that helps.
Howd u get the shifter straight up? If its just in 1st 3rd or 5th then how do u deal with it next to ur face in 2nd 4th and rev?? I like it though!
That's pretty slick. And yeah, it's the big accent ball off the side. Need a 12x1.25mm lug but to epoxy it to then its ready lol
My trans is out of an 86 I believe an the shifter is more straight. Since I bodied my truck I feel like its not as close to my face as it was before. But ill take a pic if it in 4th an post it up. I have to cut it down now since it hits the windshield after the body drop
Just cut a hole in the roof and shift up there. Maybe pay a poor kid to ride on the roof rack and shift for you. Tap the roof the number of times you want for the gear. 3 taps is 3rd
These guys have cool shift knobs. Not the I even bought one from them but I would consider them if I needed one. My vehicles all came with stock knobs, jyst the way I like it.
Lets go car surfin bro! Haha. We can strap a racing seat to the hood I will get new pics tomorrow of my setup. I have a sweet shifter.
Found some cool stuff on eBay. They can do custom color combos and patterns. Emailed and they can do dash knobs too. Here's a link. Blue Blue Dicro Swirl Glass Gear Ball Shift Knob Rat Hot Rod Custom | eBay
