whats the most material i can shave off a 20r head so that it still can be bolted to an early 22r pop up motor??
Somewhere in the area past .120 of an inch. They can be milled a ton. Ive milled mine .050. I know a guy who milled .120. Youll have to notch your pistons if you run any kind of cam, but thats easy.
kk thanks for the info! also would i need an adj. timing chain sprocket if i mill? and i heard that shops can weld material back on the headto fill in pits???
Yup. Any kind of milling and you need the sprocket. And why would it be pitted? Id look for another head before I would reweld the deck surface...
the early 22r motors with the raised pistons.. 4got what they call em again... anyways thanks i think ill grab slackers own soon and get to work! hopefully shipping doesnt kill me! hey would it be worth replacing the valves to stock 22r valvetrain or should i just invest on bigger aftermarket valves? would 22r valves give me a big gain?
Ok, I ran a very ported 20R head with stock valves re-lapped. It ran GOOD! I havnt drivin my stage 5 valve headed engine yet so I couldnt tell you how much of a gain there is. But I spent alot of money doing it. If you dont want to take it that far, port it, stock valves, cheapy EngnBldr springs, cam and call it a day. By far the biggest gain on a hybrid motor is induction. Just like what LC tech guy said...Sidedrafts or a Holley if your after power. Webers wont cut it. Its a great feeling revving a "POS" 22R motor over 6 grand and it doesnt quit pulling one bit.
hell yea, i coulda sworn we made this one honda faq squazz his butt cheeks, lol... but just for the fun of it, run you a stock carb for a week or so, then slap a holley on there... gonna make you squazz your butt cheeks too!
