last time i did it when i lived there. was they had to do a brake and light test measure your brake pads make sure all the lights work http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr13.htm
Ya my brother did it awhile back an it was just a brake an light test. Just wanted to get others opinions before buying this 4runner shell
very simple inspection. the one i went to did a full lights function visual test, drove it down the street to check the brakes and that was it. done and over in about 15 minutes.
I'm pretty sure you can swap the body and just keep it registered as a truck, since thats what the frame and motor is from. Because if the shell was a V6 truck, then you will need to get it refereed as a 22RE swap.
I talked to Tom the owner of the old bagged 4runner an he said his was register as a runner with v6 but kept smogging as a 4 cyl an passed everytime. I was gonna sell the reg cab an title to a buddy
That one is easier to get around. A body swap is legal, just tell them its on the pickup chassis, but the pickup was too damaged, or rotted out, and you found the 4Runner body and swapped it.
What about the 4runners vin number on the dash? Or should I keep the dash I have now? And if I did tht could I just keep my reg cabs license plate and put it on the runner?
Ya it would still be registered as your truck, so keep your plates. You are just replacing a body that is "unusable". Which has been done before. I would keep your VIN, I think you can just drill the rivets out if the 4Runner dash is nicer, or just swap yours.
Alright that's what I'll do then I'll just tell my buddy I need the title an he can use the 4runner title haha
