is there a way to lower your truck without bagging it or using blocks? i was looking at some pics of lowered trucks and don't like how the springs are so easily visible because of the blocks.
leaf springs are visible when dropped or not dropped take the springs out if you want to drop your truck to the ground lol haahaaa
i get what you mean. the other route is to 4link it with coils/coilovers, or to use drop leafs and. or to mount your springs either in or outside the frame rails and up higher. outside would take away alot of tire space. inside will get a bit more body roll.
you can remove springs in the back and crank the torsions but you wont be very low. there are 3" drop leaf springs available from belltech. it will give you a decent stance. i also heard that a friend of a friend notched the frame a little where the front hanger is so that the hanger itself was recessed
but however far the front or rear of the leaf moves up, you only get about half of that in drop due to it taking an arc. example, raise the front 2" you get 1" drop. raise both ends 2" you get 2" drop. i say do the belltech leafs (or a local spring shop can make something similar) and run a small 1-2" block. then paint it all flat black. once its low enough, you cant really see anything. lol.
well i don't want to scrape pavement. just want to lower it a bit without the springs so visible. lol. thanks
you wont scrap until a hell of a lot more drop than 2-3". my 78 is dimensionally smaller than the 89-95s by quite a bit, and i put shorter tires as well as about an 8" drop in the front and 7" in the back. and the only thing that scraps is my exhaust because i need to redo it.
Well some of us like a functioning suspension. The next step for you, and I am supprised you have not thought of it all ready. Is to hard mount the rear axle, have tabs welded from the axle to the frame, just get rid of the rear springs all together since they don't do anything. On the front you can take out the torsions or wait till you turn a couple more turns and they just fall out. Use your shock mounts as hard mounts, get the bottom part eye bolted, small piece of pipe and another eye bolt and you be good to go. Maybe add a couple bump stops in there and you'd never even notice the difference.
really? i dont rub or scrape much unless i find a tall speed bump or a deformity in the road from heavy trucks in reply to the OP........ you can do a few things to your suspension. up front you can do allot........ you can do either or a combination of spindles(2"), lower control arms(3"), crank the torsions(0-4") although cranking the torsions would render a questionable ride quality... as for the rear........ the ugly "hanging leafs" you talk about is usually because people use 3" or 4" blocks on stock leafs...... its not that the leafs are moved anywhere from the stock location when you use the blocks.... they still show as much even in stock form on the truck. lowering leafs however will tuck away a bit... most lowering leafs are around 3". if you use lowering leafs and maybe a 1"-3" block, you wont notice those leafs at all....... not unless you are as tall as my yorkie... here's an example of a 89+ with lowering leafs and 3" blocks Shot with X400,D580Z,C460Z at 2009-06-21 Shot with X400,D580Z,C460Z at 2009-06-21
that is a sick ass looking truck. i will probably go with some leafs in the back and crank the torsion bars til it sits like i like it. i'm talkin doin it on that 83. i can't wait to go get it.
