i'm looking into getting a small roof rack to keep a small tool box and some other stuff in. but i'm not having any luck finding any that doesn't require drilling through my roof(not an option) and seeing as it has no drip rails, what are my options?

I've always had Yakima, you build them piece by piece. You have to buy the q-towers that fit then locks bars and so on. Thule is the same way. I'd go either one of these racks for best fitment. :waytogo:

I was looking into this too, im a fan of the yakima racks / thule racks just not the price... you can buy name brand and spend the dough or you can buy a universal one. Byronics on here had a yakima one. and if you have instagram you could check out @stance2200 mazda with a universal ebay one with the yakima fairing it looks pretty clean the rack on ebay is like $40 and the fairing (yakima) is about another $40 used.

I rock a rack on my 78. It clamps my drip rails but could clamp the edge of the door frame just the same. I got it from a suburu wagon and that's how it was held. There is a snap latch on each corner. Bar is clamped to the towers. My bars are round and rubber coated. Feet have a silicon base. Check Craigslist for cars parting out with racks and scoop one that way. I can get more pics of mine, or there should be some on my build thread near the end.

I have had a bmx bike up on the rack mounted via seat and grips so the wheels were on. Took corners really hard and it never shook loose. I also had a snowboard up there without issues. A box of some sort would be handy. I have a steamer trunk I'm gonna restore for mine someday. Let me know if you need pics or measurements.

Here's a pic of another members 84-88 style with a rack. He will know how it fits more than I do but theres a pic. His has a front fascia too.

Don't even want to consider a cross-bed box? They have low profile ones now that are only 1~2inches above the bed walls. Or there are the "job box" style boxes which are just boxes you bold to floor of the bed.

I have one on my truck. It looks utilitarian but I like it because it can be used as a lockable trunk; something I need because I have a standard cab so there is no place to put crap.

maybe im missing something here... if you have a usable bed, why do you need a roof rack?
