rocker arm shaft removal

    1988 4x4 4cyl 5 speed standard cab
    Can someone tell me if I can remove the rocker arms and their shafts without removing the head and replacing the head gasket. This is on a 88 truck 22re

    yeah. just take out the bolts holding the shaft down. it should pop out. just make sure it torques down properly when you reinstall it.

    Arent those bolts also the head bolts or are they seperate? Thanks for the reply.

    they are the head bolts, the proper thing to do would be to replace the head gasket it will be a gamble if it will seal correctly from removing the head bolts.

    BTW if you are going to remove the rocker assy, loosen the shaft retaining screws before removing the assy.
