On my 86 Toyota truck 4x4 2.4 EFI..suppossed to be a new engine..now have 1100 or so miles on it.Do the head bolts have to be retightened on it?
I've never heard of this, if they were torqued to the proper specs originally, they should be fine. It's just a stocker right?
after installing a new head gasket you heat cycle the motor then re-torque. there should be break-in instructions with the motor, or the builder could tell you. but the motor should be broke in by now with 1kmi.
every car is tested from the factory, couple miles or so i bet. but theres break-in instructions that come with a new car. not sure about all motors, but for 2Xr's ya. says so in any instructions ive read, its even in the writeup
ive done lots of head gasgets at work and i have never heard of having someone come back to get the bolts re-torqed. this isnt only for toyota but every make ive done.... i think the reason that there is a certain pattern to torq the bolts in eliminates the need for a re-torq after 'x' amount of mileage/heat cycles.
