Im trying to get my hands on a 91 Jimmy 4dr. I know, i know, its not a mini, but im just looking for a car right now to get around till i can save up for another mini. Its a 4dr, old state work truck, V6, has some rust, 121,xxx miles. Anywho, truck has been sitting for a year with a half tank of gas. Any easy ways to drain the gas? Is there a drain plug anyone knows of? I just plan on adding oil (its dry), top off fluids and drive it. Hope it all goes well. The gas is the only thing that worries me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys. Ill post pics when i get it up and running.
Are you guna tow it? If so just drop the tank. Syphon out the gas and let watever is left evaporate. Then clean out the tank and toss the tank back on and fill er up
Ive heard that tanks are heavy when there is gas in them. Also kind of lazy about dropping the tank. Thanks for the insight though. Perhaps someone else would know.
Sitting for a year aint too bad If the tank wasn't opened to the outside elements... Just throw in a can of sea foam and 5-8 gallons of fresh super unleaded... It may run like crap till the old gas is displaced, I don't think it'll hurt the engine if everything else on the oiling and cooling side of things are good. When u get it home, you can change out the fuel filters and do a tune up. If it has a cat/o2 sensors they may also get gunked up from the old fuel being burned. I hate the smell of old gas... Good luck!
B.Y.E you were right. I picked up a can of seafoam, added 4gallons of new gas, then dumped the seafoam in. After a couple of cranks and holding down the pedal it started. Has a rough idle, think it needs a tune up after sitting for that long. Rolled it around a bit. nice to know it runs. Was going to keep it as a daily, but since i already picked up a truck im thinking of selling it. Thanks for all the help guys.
