hey all, i've done a bit of work on my truck with lowering it and all, and while i was under the beast i noticed my rear motor mount that holds the transmission up was a little "loose", or the big center knob thingy was able to spin freely. i thought "gee, it's not supposed to do that" so i cranked it down a bit until it was snug, and now when i drive, i get vibrations across the transmission tunnel when i take my foot off the pedal in 3rd gear at 40 mph to drop to 35mph. i'm also getting a bit of "clutch chatter" or the like when i start out in first. did i tighten my rear motor mount too tight? is it supposed to be loose? is it supposed to float over the rubber bushings? for reference, my truck is a '93 base 22re with 130k miles and probably never seen much maintenance work. i also looked in the graciously uploaded FSM by nathan buchannan, and couldn't find anything on what the specs are for standards of operation. help!
If the only thing you changed was the preload on the trans mount from pre vibration to now then yes that would be a solid guess as to the culprit.
thanks WhiteTrash, this is true enough, but does anybody know what the service specs are? is it supposed to be tightened down all the way so it holds against the bushings, or does it float above them? do i just have blown bushings and need to replace the rear motor mount?
I believe there is supposed to be a bit of float in the mount and by tightening the bolt you removed it. Another thing to consider is the tip of the bolt could be up against the transmission mounted plate transferring vibration between the chassis and drivetrain.
