Trying to put rear disc on my 1977 hi luxury anybody know of another way then buying a kit from a company I building this truck on a budget.
Any particular rotors car or truck I would need to look for? If not ill just break down & just buy a kit
Hi-ya doing mate, There is no particular vehicle you should or shouldn't look out for. I intend using a pair of rear discs from a Lexus LS400 on my own but that decision was strictly because I had one for parts so I took everything I could use. So far in my experience, the interchangeability of parts between Toyota & Lexus has made the Lexus an ideal donor. For instance the master cylinder & servo both bolted up to my '97 with absolutely no cutting or welding. Lexus parts are typically bigger & of a higher spec. than any of Irish Toyotas at least. Prices for used Lexus, even in good condition, are rock bottom here too. On a side note, are you looking to change to rear discs for aesthetics or performance? I firmly believe the drums are absolutely fine for the job of hauling up the rear of a Hilux. The parts I have for a rear disc conversion will stay in the box they are right now until I have everything else done & am feeling bored! There will be some amount of custom fabrication or at least some machining for any adapted setup, how are you set up for that?
Mainly its for looks my buddy owns a fab shop &head another buddy is a machinist he is doing all my billet aluminum parts. Im doing a frame off custom/ restoration on this truck I figured it would be better to change it now then later while the frame is being put together. I have pics only on my facebook at the moment.
Sorry about the crappy typing im on my phone taking a break from blasting the cab at my friends sandblasting shop
Hey man i know that the ford 8.8 is pretty popular on here the only real problem is they are a bit wider than the stock axle but they end up being a stronger axle capable of handling more power. Heres a write up for the swap though. Hope this helps http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/suspension-chassis-40/ford-8-8-install-5308/
There a member on here that used turbo supra brakes. I think it was from an 87. all he had to do was make a bracket. I just snagged a set of calipers from a 95 lincoln mark vii. Since the bolt patters the same and new rotors are only about 25 bux and stocked at the autoparts store. plus those lincolns came with 4.6's so should be able to stop the 22r i got and the 7m in the future. But there are tons of other options. chevy calipers, svo mustang rotors,...
