raised bed floor?

    hey grant, the japanese bed is more of a bastard then a 4x4 bed. either way you have to cut the sides loose. i use a cutoff wheel and sawzall. just cut about 1" from the bed skin. you can see the area where the two part bedsides and the floor are welded together. just cut at the edge of them, and across the back. i'd recommend drilling the front tack welds out.

    then you'll have to make a U shaped cradle to sit the floor into. just make sure the x members don't interfere with the stock x members. i originally planned to use the stock floor on the 86, so i cut all the factory x members off the bed floor, and planned to weld the skin to the new cradle. the upright pieces have to be notched to fit the contour of the japanese bed, and should be just about flush with the inner lip of the bed..
