Okay, quick question... on the lower control arms on my 92 pickup, there is a pair of nutplates mounted on a bar. The bar runs front to back on the arm. This assembly is inboard of the two front/back mount holes for the ball joint. What is this stupid thing for? It is what my bags are rubbing on, and I need to know if I can just grind them off so that I don't have to remove the old bag plates and weld on new ones... Don't have a way to get under the arm to figure this out.

The bar in the green box is what the nutplates are for... What is that bar, and what is its purpose? Can I just unbolt it and toss it? I notice that there doesn't appear to be any provision for that bar on the djm or cando lower control arms...

that is your strut bar. it keeps the lower control arm from moving forward and back wards while driving and braking. you have to have it unless you triangulate the lower arms, or run aftermarket arms like cando. his arms are built to triangulate the lower eliminating the strut rod.

Well, I decided against going with tubular arms from CanDo. That was the plan from the beginning, as for now I'm just trying to get this truck back on the road. No the plan is this. My buddy (who sold me the R1, and who has helped me on the truck a bit) wants to buy my old F3 stunt bike. I told me $700 and it, and all of the one-off parts for it(one of the only dual caliper rear handbrake setups for an F3 in the world, as far as I can tell, plus like 4 exhaust systems), are his... $700, where have I seen that number before? Maybe on the Michigan Metal Works site...

Hey, i just saw this and wanted to chime in here, sorry to dig up an older topic.

The arms we produce are certainly not 700$ for lowers LOL. We dont even charge 700$ for a full set of uppers and lowers.

Ball Joint uppers and lowers run 649$ Jeebusjoint upper and lowers run 949$

All come with CNC machined x-shafts upper and lower, and fully tig welded construction.

Again, sorry to dig up an old thread, just wanted to put some info in here.

Hi guys just a question i have a 2002 Hilux on a static drop ,,, 235/18 wheels on the front , without spacers ..kinda like the look of the wheel offset, tuck into the body...but only problem is when trying to turn sharp , the wheels rub against the strutbar...giving it that grinding affect, will this triangulated lower control arm compensate for this problem is aswell.

Okay, I got me some MMW jeebus joint arms, belltech spindles, ss-6 bags, and all sorts of tie-rod bits to swap out this weekend. That said, there is one more thing I kinda need to know. There is a bar going across the frame, side to side, that is mounted to the bottom of the frame. it is located maybe a couple of inches forward of the firewall. What the heck is this thing? Also, can it be replaced with something else to allow me to lay out fully? Thanks for all of the replies!
