So here's the situation. My 92 does this random thing where every once in a while it puffs a nice little blue cloud when I fire it up. Its random too, as in not every time, not when its cold or hot. I have noticed it does it more when I drive it short distances and let it set for a while and fire it up again. Im not too familiar with the 22re, so would it be possible for oil to be collecting somewhere in the top end, then making its way into the cylinder? The engine has 183xxx highway miles, very well maintained and serviced, and is bone stock. She doesn't knock or rattle, runs super smooth. Irritates the hell out of me. It doesn't seem as though the engine is at the stage where it would smoke because it runs so well. Any thoughts?
Great. Makes sense. It sat for over a year before it got bagged. The guy I got it from drove it daily to work then the fuel pump took a dump. If they were leaking, would it just puff smoke randomly, or all the time?
Blue smoke means you're burning oil. So either your seals are bad or your rings. Your valve stem seals could be bad. Most commonly your rings will go.
