    hello,
i'm new here [and yes, i've posted in the "introduce yourself"]. i have a small problem with my '84 22r that i hope you guys can help me with.

    background:
truck sat for a couple of years, not running. the turns out the ignition module was bad. i did the HEI module and coil swap and got it to sorta run. soaked the carb in chem-dip, rebuilt it with a decent kit. now it starts runs and drives :clapping:

    problem:
when the truck warms up, sometimes it has an odd problem. under partial throttle it just dies off. if i shift down a gear and get the RPMS up it keeps going, accelerates and such like there is nothing wrong. but if i shift back to where it was before, it just dies off. also when it's doing this when i get to light or stop sign, it will have a dead spot from off-idle to about 1/2 throttle. but if i open the throttle [likely useing the accell pump] it gets past that problem area and i can leave the stop sign and drive as long as the RPMS are kept alittle high.

i've tried the following things, but it keeps doing it:
made sure everything on the intake side is tight
new intake / carb / spacer gaskets
    desmogged [egr / canister etc]
    canadian version vacuum routing
    adjusted timing
sprayed carb cleaner EVERY where on the intake side
new bosch mechanical fuel pump, new filter by tank, new lines etc.

anyone have any ideas on what-else it could be?

i'm guessing it's a vacuum leak by the way it acts, but i sure as hell can't find it. i haven't had a carb'd vehicle in a long time. i've been programmable EFI systems since 2001 or so...

Float level off or sticking ?
A weber conversion is your best bet no headaches simple clean install with a bump in hp and a bit of torque it's usually the first thing thing to give toss on 22rs in favor of a better designed weber

Lol. Thanks for the replys, lol I'm not putting another carb on it. Ill spend the $200 or so and put efi on it. I'm not talking the stock crap, I mean megasquirt programmable efi. With a laptop connected I can,see all the sensors
, rpm, vacuum/boost, battery voltage, etc. It logs data too so I can look back on the data and figure put what's going on. I used to do carbs like 15+ years ago, but since going efi I've forgotten most of the carb stuff I knew.

I'll check the float level, it seems to have fuel through the little window. but honestly its hard to see if there is fuel in there when its doing what it does.

I have an extra set of ITBs that ill likely put on when I fuel inject it. Should sound cool :)

well i figured this out awhile ago. turns out the coil that autozone sold me was NOT for HEI and didn't like the module. put a coil [again from autozone] that has "for electronic ignitions" written on it. works GREAT. the original igition module from autozone was $300. it was $55 or so for a brand new coil and module. if you do it, just be sure they give you matching parts.

    dumbasses!
