I’m new to the mini trucks but I recently got a 86 hilux and noticed the power steering cap said Toyoda and was wondering why that is.
The story goes... Toyoda is the founder's actual name. But, written in katakana, a Japanese "alphabet", it results in 10 brush strokes. Eight is considered good luck in Japan (and other Asian cultures). What people call the "teq" logo is actually to-yo-ta written in Katakana (sorry, not able to show you). The last character, "da" , in the founder's name is "ta" with two extra stokes. So take away the two strokes and you get a total of eight strokes and "Toyota"...
