Hey everybody. My name is Kevin and im new to the forum. My dad just gave me his 89 pickup to use while i go to college. i had an 05 subaru sti with 400hp that i gave up to get rid of the payments so i could go back to college. Although i like the reliability a lack of a monthly payment of my toyota i cant hardly handle the 112hp:verdict_in: I briefly looked over a few threads on this forum and saw that some people were running 1or2jz engine. I was wondering if this is the most popular and easiest engine swap. I found an outfit in canada that apparently makes an engine swap kit for the 1or2jz and claims the kit makes it so easy a caveman can do it... is this true? thats not the actual claim but you get my drift:) which is the better engine? where can you get one? Also has anyone tried using the 3vz-fe? i know its a front wheel drive engine but i thought i came across a thread on a different forum that someone said it works??? My dream car is a supra... can get enough of the fast and the furious.:D Im having mixed feelings about putting a 2jz in a hilux:shrug: any info help thx.

Yah 1jz or 2jz is legit few companys make mount kits/member kits for them. A few companies also will do your harness as well. You can also do the 7mgte or of course a small block. Ive also seen a few guys do the sr20det swaps. Its really all relevant to your taste and how much you want to spend and how much you want to fabricate. With the amount of JZ swaps done to these trucks there are a few more companies out there that make the parts for swaps. I think there is a few webistes/forums that are specifically catered to these swaps too.

Kinda stupid question, But are you in California?

Smog rules suck. Might want to check that out before you do a swap.

For instance, its ok to do a motor swap from a car to a car, or a truck to a truck.

And the motor has to be from a newer model year

And has to have ALL of the original emission equipment and exhaust.

(Im not a encyolopedia, just things ive read about Cali, and are on the top of my mind. check for yourself) :waytogo:

If it wont pass emissions, wont be street legal.

On a second thought. Ever drive a twin turbo 6 speed supra?

Feels EXACTLY like an LS1 camaro; big, heavy, too much hood, no room under it,

    but with lag.

    Totally overrated IMO.

If you get the motor it can't be jdm. Jdm won't pass emissions. Your gonna need a usdm motor and all the smog things. Engine must be newer or same year of your truck.

hahaha no i don't live in cali.....yet! i currently live in NV and at the beginning of a transition to move to cali. The NV smog laws are if not worst pretty much the same as CA. I use to hate them but i have pretty high confidence in todays technology when it comes to tuning... it seems like if you know a good tuner they can tune your car to pass any smog test and still get the most out of your car. so it was with my subabu. thats good advise about getting an engine thats the same year or newer the. i appreciate that. The 1uz and the sr20det ill have to research. if they require fab work im just not interested though. it would be one thing if i was making a rockcrawler. i would rather go with usdm motor than jdm anyways... anyone ever notice that anything from overseas that gets released here usually comes with more hp and tq. but we have slower speed limits:looney: haha. at least with blue collar vehicles. oh and raffaelli i didnt understand if your saying the supra or the comaro is over rated but incase you were talking about the supra... check this street legal one out...YouTube - Ryan Woon WOTM Supra vs Muscle Car Las Vagas And YouTube - WOTM's Ryan Woon and His Supra :D
