whats the reason for it what can it help with and my thot is it for better airflow any tips on this my bro suggested me doing it to my 22r since i have it off at the moment so just wanted to get info on it thx guy
it does help flow but there is a science to it. a flow bench is usually the best way to get the most balance and performance out of the head... but that costs $$$
Yea def a science to it .. And is a skilled art ..... If you wanna mess around with your head you can take a Dremel tool and a stone bit and a few different standings come bits and smooth the ruff ness out of the runners Be very cautious not to hit the mating gasket surface or the valve stem inside the runner or bore a hole in the head wich would be hard to do ..
Well I'm a take it to a shop and get it done I'm a have the same guy that resurfaced my head do it he said he would charg me 100 what do u guys think nothing fancy just a street port
It basically makes things flow better. You should see if he will do the intake manifold too. Makes a big difference vs not having it done on intakes. Heads always benefit from a good porting.
I would say do that one yourself. Easy to find junkyard spares. Do it to a spare, then if you mess up you can recycle it and start over. I do all my own intakes, rarely do the heads. I have a write up on my build but here are some pics during the process to see the point of it. Cut this out too
Just trying to make the transition better and smooth out the air path. For the carb base, i take out the bar to allow close to the same surface area of the opening as that of what a weber spits out. Stock carb hole is 28mm x 28mm. Weber is either 32/36mm or 38/38 depending which one people put. The bar alone makes a difference. For EFI intakes, same tactics different layout. Make it smooth
X2 on the intake or get after market.. biker has got it right a sharpie pen ... Its a good measuring guiding tool ... Get the good flowing carb and port match the intake to the head and free up some horses
I wouldn't bother porting a 22r head. The swirl ports only move air because they are kinda big. Now if it was a 20r head I'd say go to town.
Using outlaw head from engnbuilder big polished ports big ss valves .offy intake big cam ..so yea the 22r head is worth porting . As in general with engine building there are areas that can be addressed to gain a few ponies little bits add up . And when the right combinations of parts are used there are gains to be had ...
