wats up guys, just thought i'd start this thread in case anyone else had this similar problem. SYMPTOM: unable to adjust timing properly, runs ok, stumbles some times, idle is low/poor and feels like its gonna die. ----first off---- make sure ----- i had already replaced timing chain, set all timing marks correctly, adjusted valves. i started having this problem before i did the t-chain, it needed it, guides were shot n chain was over stretched, probably jumped a tooth. after the repair, still had the same prob. replaced spark plugs, cleaned TB with new gasket, cleaned IAC valve and the 2 coolant hoses. STILL HAD PROBLEM. replaced distributor cap n rotor. STILL PROBLEM. tried to time distributor like 4 times -no can fix. No trouble codes, no CEL. ****when jumping the connector on the data port -if the timing mark doesnt move or if the idle doesnt change (audibly) -Houston u have a problem. THIS is what i had found. did some googling n found that the most likely cause of this is -the TPS/throttle stop is out of adjustment. pulled out the TB, checked the adjustment and reinstalled it. I was able to fire it right up and check the data port for the idle speed/crank mark were changing when plugged and un-plugged!!!! so i was able to get it timed n set distributor and proper idle speed. runs like a champ!!!!!! this isnt the website it got the fix from but its good info to start. basically try n find the procedure from a repair manual online n follow the steps for adjusting the TPS. pretty much, all u'll need (tools) are jumper wires, ohm meter, and some feeler gauges. 4x4Wire's TrailTalk Forums: 22RE won't time right - UPDATED hope this helps. i might have left some stuff out but if u have any questions about the process, post it n ill try to provide more input to the best of my knowledge n what steps i took to figure it out.
sorry, here are just a few pics of the TB and the IAC valve that i took. the TB had ungodly amount of carbon, had to scratch n scrape with a small flat head screw driver to get chip it off. but be careful not to gouge the TB, its soft metal. best to let some carb cleaner soak in before hand. the IAC valve was super clogged, i dont think there was any flow through it at all. also made sure to clean out the 2 hoses attached to it.
@jaybee - idk chelu, i dont think carb have throttle position sensor. especially if u have side drafts or some thing like that kind of set up. @ da chelu from malessu (lol) -fukya chelu, had to call LCE n make sure that i did install the chain correctly (tech support) then i just kinda snowballed into diag process n checking the TPS was the first step i took, n should just done that in the first place.
