Looked at a 91 x-cab 4x4,3.0, 5spd, all the sheet metal is rusty and unusable, has a new 'brain' , distributor, coil and a few other things...front bumper, grill, lights, etc in great shape, also interior is good...won't start-i see a lot of rust on fuel lines, probably why it won't start, frame has rust and could be welded...

my thought is, it's not worth fixing, but i see some good parts that could be saved...

how much is the bumper/grill assembly worth? the interior? 5-spd? transfer case? engine (if it runs)? would the seat fit my '84 2-wd? i really need a new seat...what else would fit my truck?

i can get the truck for $350 and could probably get $250 scrap locally, less if i sell the engine/trans/transfer case...any thoughts?

Yah man for $350 take your time parting the good. Even if the engine doesnt run you could probably get $250 or more for it maybe $75-100 for the tranny and other larger items in good shape. Id think you could easily get $800 to a grand parting it out. The seats will go into your truck they might not bolt directly in but you can swap the brackets and sliders and should be good.

If you get it take a couple shots of the dash cause Id be willing to pick that up from you if its in good shape. I dont want to run around for a few weeks with no dash when I smooth mine.

You havnt even bought it yet and I bet you could sell some of the parts to people like me and the rest of us here. hahah

Or put a motor in it and you have an off road truck you won't mind getting scratched. 4x4 Toyotas have a huge demand

Unfortunately, i had to pass on it...a friend offered a running and registered 89 F-150 for $500...very little rust and a few minor problems, and since i needed something roadworthy so i can take the 84 yota out of service for some long overdue work, i opted for the ford...

If i miraculously find some more cash, i will definitely grab that yota and part it out,or maybe even build a mud truck,as suggested...but for now i have to settle for the 'practical' route...

    many thanks for the responses

Wish i had the spare $$...the grill is in great shape,no cracks at all that i saw, lights and corners shine like new...interior was in good shape, but i didn't pay a lot of attention to looking for cracks, etc.

I crawled under(as always),found some good-sized rust holes along the inside of both frame rails near leaf spring hangers, and fuel/brake lines are swelled up masses of rust, which i strongly feel is the reason it won't start....drivetrain looked decent...underside of body is pretty much gone, hood not bad, glass good...not sure about the doors, didn't pay attention:duh:
