My parking brake light on my dash stays on even when the brake is released. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have a '92 pickup.

First make sure the handle is all the way in. Mine did that too and i could wiggle the handle and it would go out. Second check the brake fluid level. If it is low the light will go on. If the fluid is low check your brakes and brake lines for a possible leak or if the pads and shoes are worn out the level will drop as well, causing the light to come on.

Another thing to check is your alternator! A lot of people don't know this, but when your alternator starts to go bad the parking brake light will come & stay on even when the brake is not in use. Its a safety feature that Toyota's have on them...lets you know the alternator is about to die!! This is what happened to me with my truck...parking brake light came on & a few days later the alternator went bad. So just to be safe get by a parts store & have them check that for you.

the standard "alternator took a crap" error message for toyota's up to 96 is the brake and alt light lit on the dash board.

just the brake light is like explained above

just the alt light is a discharge (short) or lack of power (wire fell off or is disconnected)

. . . So that all said, the charge light and the brake light flashing/pulsing together every once in awhile but not all the time ( like every couple of days or a week in between happenings ) would be?

not sure, id check out your alt.

if it just comes and goes id check out the back of the plug on the alt to make sure the wires arnt cracked

Mine comes on intermitently ususally when I'm accelerating or cornering hard. The fluid is full and my alt has yet to die so I dunno what up with it. I'm guessing the little switch is messed up.

Mine does the same thing. It stays on for a while after accelerating, though.

To answer the questions about why the light stays on/comes on when you speed up or go around corners is because after so many years of the brake handle being pulled out & pushed back in the unit itself loses some tension so it dont sit good against the emergency brake switch. Not too worry mine does that as well!!
