Definitely the yellow top. Everyone I know with a red top has eventually switched to the yellow top.

red tops are like stock replacement starting batteries that have more cold cranking amps. The yellow top is more of a deep cycle battery so it can be drained and recharged many more times.

I have a red top in my truck and I have never killed it, even parked for a hour with a decent sound system watching a movie it wont struggle to start. If you plan on leaving your lights on for a while, have bags,a powerful stereo, or a inverter.. get a yellow top.

agreed trap i got the red one at first then took it back and got the yellow top. this was after i did some talking about it to friends, red top is for your high performance racecar like application(which if your talkin about the rn80's its not ) but if you have a lot of electricity needs for subs and what have you. then you need the yellow top.

little testimony: dropped my truck off at the phone companys lot and rode to concord to chill and came back and my lights were still on and i could crank it no prob. so i am a fan of optima.

    pluss no nasty corrosion :waytogo:

Red Tops are a starting battery, the newer Yellow Tops are Deep Cycle/Starting
I've run a Yellow Top of this type for the last 6 years,& have a 140apm alternator, also 2 pumps,2 amps ,electric fan & 120 watt headlites. Handles all fine!
Problem is Optima batteries when very low will not recharge off the vehicle, only with a 2 amp slow charge will they come back up!
I found the best battery is a Odyssey ( Like a Stingier, but better warranty),longer shelf life & USA made,& the only military rated battery made!!
    Will be my next battery!!

deep cycle batts (yellow top) are best for vehicles not driven very often, with a high load (RV/ show car)

i have red tops in almost all my cars (F'n theives). ive left 9 h3-h4 lights, CB, radio, and ignition on over night while camping. turned everything off and 2 hrs later could start the truck.

also had the positive terminal ground out to the hood

    rolled my truck... twice

had the batt keeper fall off and the batt fell down between the frame rails n motor, snapped the terminals off (wiring side) and bounced the batt off my front axl, then the ground as it slid to a stop from 40mph.

all of the above has happened to the same 5yr old battery.

    NOT ONE HICCUP EVER!

    I run a Yellow Top ,with a 120 amp alt., 2pumps.electric fan & 2 amps.
Problem with Opitma batteries is if down they will not recharge with the vehicles charging system. Only with a slow 2 amp charge will they come back to 12.5-13.2 volts!
I found a better & probably the best battery is a Odyssey, same type of battery, made in the USA, & the only military rated battery. Better warranty & longer shelf life!
Will be the next battery I buy!

My brother in Law's Red top just died, he had it in his Bagged 64 Belair, he has had it since optima offered it, sat in his garage 358 days out of the year, always started no problems.

I run the red top for my starting and vehicles systems supply, and I use my yellow top that charges off a isolator to power my subs, and compressors. Topping it all of is the use of platinum coated connectors all throughout and nothing smaller than 4 gauge for wiring . . .
