So my co worker is thinking of selling his truck. Its a 88ish 4wd single cab with the 3.slow he said. From what i gather it used to be his daily until the fuel pump went out. Ever since its been sitting in the garage. Truck is super clean. Im gonna talk to him about selling it, last i heard he wanted $500 for it. How hard is it to change the fuel pump on the 3.0? Is it in the tank or next to the engine? Not really a fan of the 3.0 but for this price, heck who cares.
Now onto the things that bother me and raise concern.....
After the truck went down he went out and got a neon. That car broke so he picked up another cheap car for $700. That car ended up needing some maintaince work done(timing chain, etc) so he invested another $1200 into it. What i dont get is why didnt he just fix the truck instead of spending all that extra money when changing the fuel pump is easy. In my opinion, i want the truck but worried that its more then just the fuel pump, cause if it was just the pump, he would have fixed it. I already have a daily driver so having a project is not tooo bad. My pops is also excited and wants to build a sick 4wd out of it, SAS, 4 link, etc, etc.
I also got a family trip to vegas next month so i been trying to save up money for it, so gambling money or a truck. Hmmmm

Just not sure about the whole situation. Gonna talk to him on monday so ill see what he says. If i can get it for cheaper then better. What you guys think? Although i know most of you will say just grab the truck and enjoy my girlfriend on the trip:love: hahahahha

Im 99% sure the motor is trashed.

Its too convient that the only the fuel pump went out and he didnt bother to fix it. Its a perfect line to say to a sucker who would otherwise overpay for a scrap heap worth 200 bucks.

Besides that I hate 3.0s and highly suggest you just avoid it. You will too about the time you have to do headgaskets.

But if your set on it, check the oil, coolant, timing belt, ect before you lay down the cash.

sounds like a good deal but the 3.0...... just throws the deal out the window. honestly if it blew the gaskets it might not have mixed coolant with the oil. mine started pissing coolant out the side of the heads.

fuel pump should be in the tank. if youre willing to buy it and swap the motor then do it. Just dont expect the 3VZE to be reliable
