So i was tearing down my pop's 22r
    and took out the rods

well #2 rod was the only one i took out cause it was easy
    the truck has 280k miles

this is what the rod bearing looks like...
this isn't the ACTUAL picture but closely resembles the rod bearing :D

I KNOW WHAT YOUR THINKING lol...

    i'll get actual pics tomorrow.

    but 1 question...

i changed the oil when we swapped the cylinder head i bought from TONY here...

why the **** would it blacken quick? didnt take frikin 300 miles and its dark as ****.. but it was nice and smooth, like new oil...
    ran rich as hell too...

but thats the main reason why i'm tearing it down...
taking it to machine shop and boring it ohhh .020" and putting pistons and rings.... maybe i just need to rehone.... idfk...

    im scared! lol...

anyways i'll post pics tomorrow of the engine! looks BAD!

Blowby... And the rich condition just adds fuel to the fire by contaminating and thinning out the oil which causes premature engine wear...

At that mileage the bearings should be on it's copper layer already so the color i think your talking about is normal... Just be happy they didn't spin... Lol!

    Time for a rebuild! :waytogo:

Btw- That pic above is what happens when coolant mixes with oil and then sits before getting repaired...

280k rebuild it properly. engnbldr.com has the whole rebuild kit for around $250.

    No on the oversized slugs...

You can hone it if the bores are still within limits... Any scuffing on the skirts or crown? If so, it's time for a bore...

When you say it looks a lot like that pic, does that mean your rods have rust on them too? Or are you just talking about the color of the rod bearing?

    Shootz!

naahh jusst the bearings... i got this laser block.. has a good crank IIRC... i probably will slap the crank off of it to my pops 22R...

just all the babbit material was gone! lol...

well there was some scuffing on the skirts but none on the cylinder walls... IIRc...

I think a honing ought to do it!

i had to bore my block out, and to be honest it was nice but i fked it up by running no thermostat! but do it dude, i used to work at a machine shop and me and my partner made this 22r block bored t .080 over new pistons etc, etc, and we put the 20r head on it, he loves the truck but he hates having to run high octane fuel because of the pinging. ( high compression)
