ok...... so i got my auto meter gauge installed. my questions are....

How much oil psi. should i have at idle (running temp) ?

how much oil psi. is too much at say 5000rpms?

my results were ~75 psi. @ initial cold start...... (900rpm)

    ~38 psi. @ running temp (900rpm)

    ~75 psi. @ normal cruising (2500-3000rpm)

im also running Valvoline VR1 20w-50 :waytogo:

So where did you end up mounting these gauges?

I would say the numbers you listed are normal with the 20/50 oil

thought so....... i dont remember what they usually hit or had the specs off the book to reference from it.

i ended up mounting them at each side of the instrument cluster.... low profile status. ill get shots of it tomorrow.

i tend to run it pretty hard.... the thicker oil keeps it quiet and also its the only multi weight oil that is offered in the VR1 oil around here. i cant find anyone in town that carries a thinner weight...... i forgot exactly the contents but among it its got a better zinc/phos content that helps with these motors.... its one of the better oils i can find down here and alot of the racers use it. figure its good enough for the truck.

No, Valvoline is the brand VR1 is what its labled. its not a synthetic oil either. another thing i noticed about this oil is it stays cleaner longer than anything else ive run.

yeah...... i found it to be a good oil. back when i also had my 4x4's going out to the desert hauling my bikes and other equipment i would always lose oil pressure when the oil thinned out from goin up the grades....... i used lots of oils and the VR1 always held up best under hard loads(15 psi better)...... since then its pretty much all i use in these motors.

i use the lucas during summer days out here. but not often since it tends to stick to the internals and keeps its effect for a while.

not sure about tundra size filters but i use a K&N HP3001....... same size used in a V8 ford...... holds one quart adding 1/2 quart to the capacity. i know there are bigger filters i can use but theres no need. adding half a quart more is plenty for me. :waytogo:

if you want a bigger filter on your next oil change, look up an oil filter for a 70 V8 ford motor......... HP3001 (K&N) 3500 (bosh) PH8 (fram) etc.....

90915-YZZ-D1 is the filter on our trucks.
90915-YZZ-D3 is the filter on the Tundra's, same diameter, but "taller"

if you ask for 4.7 Tundra oil filter at some anyother parts store, you'll get the same 22RE filter height, so use the 90915 YZZ D3 number at TOYOTA dealership
