Folks. We picked up a cool 75' Toyota Hilux awhile back and thoroughly love the thing, even w the dinky original motor. Only problem is, the front left wheel pulls really hard to the left when going over a decent bump or dip. Also the tire bottoms out and rubs up in the wheel well. I took it and had an alignment done at Big O that helped somewhat, but not nearly enough. When I mentioned to their guy that it was still super squirly feeling, he just said "Well, it ain't a Cadillac!". ha I pulled off and checked the shocks, which are still good and only a year or so old and also checked for any loose tie rods and so on... but wasn't able to find anything to be loose. I've since been to several different auto shops and they won't even look at it because it's older. Do you guys have any suggestions on what the problem could be!? Thanks
Yeah... need more info. Wheel and tire specs? Does it have power steering? Any history of front end accident damage? Did the Big O people discuss the condition of bushings, ball joints, steering components, and alignment settings? How are the brakes? It sounds like bump steer but I can imagine other problems that could cause the same symptoms...
How is the steering feel? Responsive or delayed? Sounds like its suspension related rather than steering BUT a shot out steering component could cause shit to wobble around when the suspension is loaded/unloaded. Check the boots on the tie rods/balljoints. And make sure the pitman arm and idler are in good shape and TIGHT! The nut holding my pitman arm was super loose on mine and i had never touched it.
