i'm wantin to drop the rear of my '88 honestly, probably no more that 4 or 5 inches, to do so how much of a notch do i need to use? also, i read on here, someone talking about "de-arcing" my rear leaf springs to get it lower? what's that mean and how do they do it? would it be possible to get a pic of a "de-arced" leaf spring?
To be honest my "de-arched" springs looked exactly the same, until you put them on the truck, maybe a little flatter but that's about all. I am not sure how it's done, but I do know they told me that they do not use heat. I guess they just bend them in the opposite direction under extreme force until they loose 3- 4 inches of arch. Mine were 4 inches.
My trucks dropped 7 in. From factory... maybe 61/2 removed a leaf and flipped overload and when I got it stock it sagged so springs are worn so 4-5in. Drop wont require a notch with a trimmed or removed bump stop. A small pipe notch/ cnotch woukd be enough for that drip to keep a bump stop. If u use drop leafs u eill almost never bottom. Edit. Dearching if anything like rearching is heating the leaf to almost 1700 degrees and forcing it over a mold of the proper arch. Then cooled quickly. Which leaves it hard and brittle. So they heat it to almost 1000 to remove the stress and hardness. The shot peened. My guess is to dearch they do this and flatten it to the desired drop.. dont quote me.
We use a press bow at work to arch or de arch leaf springs ..heavy truck leafs that is no heat involved in this process but it does exert tons and tons of pressure on them u can roll with a 4 inch drop but a notch is always nice clearance a mini c notch doesn't require bed cutting and is fairly simple to weld in
