Let me start by saying I have very little mechanical experience.... My issue: My 320 had ignition spark but the battery was almost dead and it wouldn't turn over. I tried charging the battery outside of the car for 24 hours, and it wouldn't take the charge. I bought a brand new battery and place it correctly and now there is 0.0 spark. Not even a spark like before I replaced the batter. The head lights, dash lights work, but there is no spark at all coming from ignition. All fuses are good. I check the battery and it has 100% charge on it. All the wire are connected, nothing came un-done. What else can I check???
is the coil still good? how old is the ignition system? ( wires, coil, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs) i take it that the truck is cranking over? ie-attempting to start.
A few things that come to mind that might be worth checking, fusible link in the main fuse box under hood, the small lead that connects to the battery positive that powers the same main fuse box, or the neutral safety switch.
take nothing for granted. do all the dumb stuff like fuses and make sure you didn't break nothing swaping the battery or drop a wire thats been riged to the hot post or something. then pop the distributor cap knock the fuzz of the pick ups and rotor in teh cap with a pocket knife and wipe out all the dust you made doing that. then put it all back together. if it dont spark then. take a jumper lead... ""a short piece of wire ""and touch it from the hot post on the battery to the positive post on the ignition coil, while some one is cranking it over for you. it's wierd but sometimes you got to flash the coil to get it to start working, then after that it will be fine . update your post. is it running? what was it?
Another common issue with older batteries is that when they go bad they short out internrally ... when this happens it can take some of your ignition components with it ... easiest solution to any electrical problem is start at the source and trace the power .. in this case if the engine is turning over and you have all the othher stuff working...start at the fire wall and work your way to the coil then the distributor then the spark plugs .. also check the ground wire from the cab to the engine ... you must use the same ground connection on an elecrical meter when check ing and it needs to on the cab this will tell you that the electrial path is complete .. good luck
