What's up TM. Currently coming to you from Maryland but here soon I'll be back in Atlanta or Fort Worth, Texas (trucks are KING in Tx). Here's what's up with me. I'd love to say I'm a 16 yo just starting out on his first mini passed down from his older brother who ruled the streets with his badass built mini trucks and blah blah. No, that's not my story. Hahaha. As a matter of fact, the mini truck scene was more or less BOOMING when I was 16. I still have copies of some of those old MiniTruckin magazine! I grew up on Chevy's so at the time I lusted after a an early 90's S10. Well...never happened but I kept on loving them until I got my first car at 20. It was an Acura Integra. I went on to own a total of four Acuras, three of which were Integras...90, 92, 93. Fast forward to now. I own four vehicles which consist of GM and my last Acura. I love cars and trucks of all shapes and sizes even though I tend to not like too many Fords or Nissans. Why am I here you ask? Well, a couple of reasons. One, my daughter and step daughter are going to want to learn to drive soon and I figure at very least this will be cheap/pratical transportation. Two, I want to (and WILL) own one of these myself. I love the 89-95 style with 84-88 coming in second. My plan is to hopefully convince "the boss" that we should get one for either of the girls. Even if that doesn't happen, I'm going to find one for myself. And if I have ANYTHING to do with it, the damn thing will be customized. All of mine have been. Why change now? My initial plans for either scenario are to drop it, put some rims on it, make it a comfortable daily driver and enjoy it. I'm not as concerned about making it faster just yet. I want to do sort of a 90's build including a tilt bed (just for s&g's). Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about these trucks except that I want one badly and the little info I've picked up over the three days of obsessive reading since I discovered this site. LOL After seeing some of the trucks on here I couldn't lurk any longer. Ok, time to wrap this long intro up. I'm hoping I can find all the help, support and friendship as I have on other sites. Below are a examples of what my goal is. The first one has a front end I'd like to copy exactly but don't know a clue what variation/combination it is. I usually hate chrome but it makes this truck. The second is a truck that was owned by a member here and sold. Third is another member here...love the wheels. (Not sure who owns it. Very much my style) cdavidson *chalo*
1st and 3rd truck still have the 2wd fenders. #2 has the 4wd fenders. Difference is the marker light and wheel flare. 1st one has 2wd front bumper and grille, just all in chrome. Looks like he cut out or painted the upper bar from the emblem. Rims look like Rotas maybe. Dont know the 2nd rims, 3rd is 18" Mustang Saleens. He also has the popular LED tail lights. Hope that helps the learning curve
Thanks! Scrub, you were one of the ones that turned me on to XXR's. I like them a lot for this truck. standardbyer88, thanks for the help on grills. Even doing a Googly image search is confusing of what is standard.
Welcome. glad to see trucks run in your family. I wish they did in mine! You can get a clean std cab yota for cheap. Rim choices are plentiful. Engine and suspension bolt on's are plentiful. Parts are easy to find. You should be able to build a good ride for cheap. Welcome!
Yeah, that's one thing I think I'm going to like about these Toyotas. It looks like stuff is pretty inexpensive. My dad still has the Standard cab short bed Chevy he bought new in 90. He made me appreciate trucks and growing up in the 90's did the rest. Hell, being stationed in Texas did too. LOL
Hello NashMan. So...since I know jack about these trucks, what should I look out for good and bad? I think I'm leaning towards a 92 just because I prefer the grill like the top truck above. I do like the extra clearance I could gain with the 4x4 fenders but for whatever reason I don't like the grill and corners as much (shrug). Did any of the 89-94 years come with power steering? Although I could work around it, teaching young girls to drive on it would be funny...or frustrating...the jury is still out on that. LOL
Well kinda like all used cars .. Major rust no serious frame bending accidents a decently well kept motor even no the 22re and 22rs are pretty good survivors and can be brought back to life relatively cheaply Yes there are power steering trucks thru many of the years . The manual rack isn't that bad a little tuff sitting still but a good forarm work out for a younger driver
Welcome to the forum you have good taste in trucks those were some of my faves too the first one was the reasons I joined so that I could convers with like minded people
Is there any way in knowing if the truck does or does not have power steering? Thanks for the compliment Turbo Blow. I have been collecting lots of ideas in the last few days.
Unless its listed in the forsale add . Or if they include engine picks the power steering pump and pully are slighlty underneath the distributer and could be spotted as well as resivoir will be visible on the driver side engine bay And aside from test drives you'll no if it does
Gotcha. Yeah, definitely test drives. haha I remember driving my cousins' Ford Escort. Damn, I was NOT prepared for that.
Where in md are you? Im over in manassas and would love to roll with another member from here. Plus i have lots of parts to set these trucks up.
Dunkirk. Near Chesapeake/North Beach. It's down rt 4 about 20 min south of Andrews. I'm lacking the truck part still hahaha. Doing my research and hoping to network to help my build go smoother.
Welcome! Glad you can join us. Very cool site with cool people. A lowering job, wheels & tires, & making it comfortable are all good things. Do you know what kind of wheels yet? Get some good bucket seats. I'm running Recaro's and after 25+ years, they are still extremely comfortable. Rick
