New here, this place looks fun. I'm looking for a 2wd 22r or 22re in Seattle for hauling stuff and to tinker. I never learned to fix cars so this should be fun! If anyone know of a good truck around these parts let me know. Also, if there is an inspection/what-to-look-for check list, would love to read that too.
Welcome, shouldn't be hard to find one over in the pac nw. I've always believed there was a conspiracy to take all toyotas west. Some of the best trucks are that way, and junkyards seem to have plenty of parts. Not the same on east side. Try to get a truck from an owner that keeps records/receipts of work preformed. Helps with knowing history/condition of truck.
+1. my guess is you'll have toyota owners just bring the trucks to you. seems like they are everywhere up there. good luck!
Welcome to the board! Your only real issue to look out for is rust... Most everything else is easily fixable...
Thanks all! Dogfeather: I don't know what year to look for. Which vintage is best? I've read enough to know that either 22R or 22RE should work. Actually 22RE is probably better given the better mpg.
If you want the 22RE you're probly gonna be in the 89-95 years. You probly won't notice a huge difference in mpg's between the R and the RE, just easier to pass smog with the RE.
what he said... But I personally an only familiar with 73-86... Now correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they have an RE in 86? I have/Had a 4runner that has/had an RE but I also have an 86 pickup that has a 22R so I guess it would depend on the months in which they were made.. Hey Wali....... I'll tell yea what I know you have to look at Body styles that feel pleasant on your eyes. Me being an Old Fart I like anything 50s-70s and the ones that fit that category that are readily available are 73-78 anything older is hard to come across, they are there but you have to be patient and have Money in Hand when they do come on the Market. Just My opinion.... But who's to say a Carburetor 20R won't pull 25mpg, it's all in the tuning and gearing and how you drive.
Oh yeah, they did. Don't forget about some of the 84-88's also came with a 22RTE, a factory turbo'd 22RE.
