Hey everyone, I was given a 1979 Toyota Pickup SR5 with a 20R engine and 5spd Transmission 2wd. This will be my first time working with a rear wheel drive, carbureted engine. Most of my experience is with front wheel drive cars. This truck has been sitting in a barn for about 10 years I think. It only has 222,000 miles, but all the vacuum lines have pretty much dry rotted. Also the driver side frame rail, where the leaf spring bracket is mounted is almost completely rusted through. Also I discovered while driving the truck to my house, that a whole lot of snakes decided to make this truck their home. That was an adventure getting them out of the cab lol. Other than that it's in excellent shape. I have a lot of plans for this truck. Will post some pictures of it later.
Welcome! The 1979 pickup was the 1st year of the RN3# & RN4# body style and also the 1st year a 4X4 was offered. The '79-'83 are my favorite trucks. You will have fun fixing it up. What are you plans (keep it stock or modify it a little)? Post some picture of both interior & exterior. I may be able to help regarding parts. Rick
