ok i just scored a dirtbike trailer and a yamaha ttr125 dirtbike for 250. well my trailer is a little tall compared to my truck. so im droppin it, probably gonna bag it. what do ya think. anybody ever seen a bagged moto trailer?
just make sure its strong enough....and make sure it lays frame so you can have an easy ramp to get onto it..that would be soo sick...
Dual tubes per arms for extra strength. I dont want a bag to fail or anythin. maybe you could hook it up to have it adjustable in vehicle lol
Ok guys just picked it up here it is. This thing is sweet. And i plan on over strengthening this thing to the max. NOT TO BAD FOR 250. I PUT SOME GAS IN THE BIKE AND A LITTLE STARTING FLUID AND SHE RUNS GREAT.
thats frikin sweet! I say you build a seperate subframe from the trailer flat itself. maybe the flat part can go up and down. but that wont be a true airbag setup.... hmmm, I'll try to think and draw of a design. good luck though
if you build a small swing arm you could allow the trailer surface to come down flat. use a front spindle without calipers (unless you can figure out a way for them to be powered). the arm basically aims forward and pivots at the frame. think how 2 links work if you cut one side loose. hard part would be controlling side to side movement. maybe have a curved bar that a small bore slides along at the rear to keep the wheels from moving in or out when the arm arcs. little goofy looking but its simple.
so i figured first step was to build a hitch reciever. so i broke out the plasma. put i piece of 2.5 1/4 wall through my rear crossmember. and welded it up then filled in the rest of my frame with same 3/8 plate.
lol, the only way i could see the trailer layout is thru the use of a torsion axle. but instead of mounting the axle to the frame of the trailer, mount one side of the bracket to a pivot point, and mount the other side to a hydraulic ram. use the ram to change the angle of the mount to lower and raise the suspension. you could replace the leafs with a link and run some sleeve bags but your only going to get as low as the top of the axle. i'd run it as it. just dump the bags in the front of the truck and raise the rear so the ass end puts the back of the trailer down. looks like a pretty sweet trailer for what you need! here is a torsion axle if you're not familiar with them. http://www.dexteraxle.com/torflex_axles
As in two hundred and fifty? Like american dollars? I don't get it... Anyway, as far as lowering it/bagging it, I'd start by relocating how the spindles attach to the axle. I can see from the pics that the spindles are on top of the axle rather than right inline with it, but you could still use some plate to raise it up a couple more inches above the axle. You will want to notch your frame as it looks like there is not a lot of room between the axle and frame. you could do some little half notches that just come part way into the channel or tube or go all out and do full on notches that come up throught the deck, or partway through the deck. If it were me, I'd consider the simplicity of running airbags over leafs as opposed to a custom link setup, but with stock trailer springs, you aren't going to get a lot of travel. you need something longer. I'd find some stock front toyota leafs or something equally as flat and just use two of the leaves and the overload leaf to make flexy flat springpacks. You will have to cut off the stock spring hangers and weld on new ones in the correct location for the longer springs. I think it would make more sense to do something like this. Sure, idelly it would be nice if it layed out, but the design of the frame doesn't really lend itself to this. Where the tongue goes under the deck/frame I mean. You probably would want to fab a whole custom frame for it if you really wanted it to lay out, and even still, it would be a few inches off the ground from the frame under the deck. It'd be pretty difficult to body drop it.
kind late but have you thought of making a trailer like this one? that was the best picture i could find of it
