1979 TOYOTA 4x4.jpg Used to have a 1976 Corolla and was really impressed with it. Saw it driving down the street a few years after I sold it, and was able to trade the guy a 2wd Ford truck for it. That car finally blew up on me (the SECOND TIME) and went to the crusher. Well, that turned me into a Toyota fan. I drive a 1986 Camry now. I just found this little yellow truck for $400. It needed a radiator which I purchased for $129. Also a thread was stripped on the thermostat housing. I drove the truck to my mechanic and he's checking a few things for me, but i'm gonna have a NIGHTMARE with the vacuum lines. The 4wd works good, but bogs down going up a hill. I'm sure it's the vacuum lines. How much is a crate engine for this? The original is a 20R. Also, what are the axle ratios for this year? Many thanks!

Welcome. Nice deal you got there.

Early 80s emission controls can be a nightmare without the service manual. But honestly your best bet is to buy a simple weber 2bbl carb. Like the 32/36.

Very few 20 or 22Rs actually wear out. It takes 300+K miles to do that. A compression test will help you decide on that. Just sayin. :waytogo:
