Hello, I just joined because I'm trying to help my co-worker out with his truck. He just got an 88 Toyota pickup. The truck is lowered, unknown what was used. It has Starion wheels. Tire size are 225/50/16s. He is having an issue with the rear. The bed/fender is hitting the tire and ripping it apart. I'm sure this is due to the wheel being a 17x8. What would be the best solution to resolve this without having to replace the wheels? If fender rolling a viable solution for this size wheel? Should the suspension be set higher that it currently is? If so, how can it be done? I'm not a noob to cars, but I've never worked on trucks before, so I don't know what it involves lowering one of these. Your advice/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I dont know how bad its rubbing but rolling might be an option. Smaller drop blocks could also give you more clearance.
If the fenders are not flared ( the 4x 4 type),the 2x & 4x 4 American beds are the same! Also change the front fenders to 4x4 fenders ,the fair will match the rear! If still a problem change the off set @ the rims!!
I did some researching here and read something about unbolting some bolts from the bed and moving it over to make it the same as the 4x4? Is this true? I don't know what drop blocks are, but I think I saw them between the frame of the truck and the leaf springs. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them so you can see what he has. He doesn't have an issue on the front, just the rear. Not exactly sure what the size of the wheels are, but sure does look like the rear is much wider. The wheels are no stamped anywhere with the size, maybe by taking them off to find out.
If the tires are 225/50/16 the rim (wheel) cannot be 17X8. I think tires are too wide and need to be change to 205/55/16 tires
The front and rear tires are the same size. I've not confirmed the size of the front/rear wheels, but it does look like the rear wheels are wider since the lip of the wheel is more visible then the front.
Don't think that's possible moving the bed it's still gonna be the same size . Sounds like this is a simple tire size issue with to much drop swap tires or raise the back up a smaller rear tire is what I would go for
