Howdy everybody! I will lsit more info about my two pickups later or as needed but I'm working on a school project right now and don't have the time today. I do have an urgent problem...or at least i'm afraid it might be urgent...with my 93 automatic extracab 4x4 pickup. It just started making a loud rattling noise that sounds like its coming from around the head, but it only happens during acceleration. No matter what speed I'm at the noise stops immediately when I take my foot off the gas. And it increases in intensity corresponding to the acceleration. Any ideas? I don't want to cause another worse problem by not taking care of this right away.
Welcome .. First is it a 22re or a v6 model . It can be a number of things as simple as a worn pullie bearings rattling or a broken timing chain guides causing the timing chain two rattle . Or loose or broken rocker arm .its hard to pin point over the web . Will need more info motor run good ?milage ? Missing sluggish poor idle
sounds like your rocker arms need to be adjusted, loose timing chains make a terrible noise when you cld start the truck but goes away soon after. if 22r. if a v6 check your timing.
Could be a rod or bearing before I re built my 22r it would knock under acceleration but when I would let of the gas and cruise or decelerate it would go away when I tore the head off I could slightly push the number one cylinder back down in its bore after rotating the crank around to where thenumber one was on its down stroke
yeah its the 22r. its got 300+ miles on it and I just had the head redone last summer. never got a chance to take it back to my mechanic before he hurt his back and quit turning wrenches...so sad. he said he needed to adjust the valves after they had a chance to re-seat. does that all make sense? i shouldn't drive it like this until it gets fixed right?
btw thanks to all of you for responding so quickly! This is very cool...feels like a lifeline after a shipwreck!!!
Well I'd check the valve lash sense that seems to be the general area of the noise they could be out of adjustment and make a good size noise if there really out of adjustment 300k miles I'm sure the timing chain and guides were done when the head was done .. If its a loud ticking/nock noise I wouldn't drive it to much valves tick on 22rs buy nature so if its a loud rattling noise I'd check it out ASAP . Sure it's not a rod knock
thanks! yeah i can definitely distinguish between the familiar tick and this rattle....i'll take it to the local toyo truck guy. crossing fingers i didn't screw it up too bad driving it 5 hours from raleigh to the mountains on monday!! just had it machined!! wonder what could have caused it...thanks so much!!
