hello, just joined a few minutes ago, name is kyle i live in canada, alberta and i am 20 years old. i just aquired an 82 4x4 about 3 days ago for free. plans... remove rotted box, build a deck, repair the frame, get the engine running properly, get 35" tires on all corners, medium lift, change the clutch, engine modifications.. body is pretty rough all together on this truck... and the frame on the passenger side right at the gas tank is BAD front rear leaf shackel is rotted off the frame... so i have some work cut out for me. i want the project done before november what i have done already is box removed and 35"tires on the rear frame repairs will be done soon and im working on the engine running problems. GLAD to be part of the crew!
Welcome to TM Kyle, post up some pics, let us see what your working with. You've def come to the right place to find advice on rebuilding things. You've only got 2 months till November so start a build thread, can't wait to see some progress.
im just uploading pics to photobucket as we speak.. i also wanna pick up another 2wd or even a 4wd yota and slam it probably a 4x4 since it does snow alot here
Wow that leaf spring perch is super sexy lol! These motors run forever, the body sadly do not I love toyota
thats ALOT more work then just keeping the frame i have and repairing it.... i went though some selling sites and found only 6 yotas none of them were very interested in selling.... they wouldnt even pull it out of the bush and take pictures of the frames.... after looking at the frame more it probably better to get a different frame..... there is probably 3 feet of frame gone on the bad side and probably the same amount on the other side.... either that or cut out the bad stuff find another fram cut out the same piece and weld it in mine
Welcome aboard, Kyle! I like the fact that you own an '82 Toyota. Looks like you got a lot of work ahead. Look at the bright side...once you get it all together it will be a really nice truck. Rick
Welcome to TM, bro ... Can't get any better than FREE, so you're already ahead of the game w/ out of pocket expenses ... lol ... You could just repair the damaged parts of the frame but there may be other areas of it that aren't visible and may cause problems later ... I myself would replace the whole thing ... I know you said you couldn't get your hands on one but keep lookin', they're out there ... Lookin' forward to seein' a build thread for that beauty ... Good luck ...
id find out what model and year yotas you can pull the frame from and than keep an eye on your local craigslist for something matching in the 300-800 range. or just hit the junk yard, but having a parts truck never hurts. hope this helps
